Quick stop at the custom shop

Got to say, I'm not a big fan of the Emp strings. Good bass response and they feel good under the fingers but the mids are muffled making the G string a little thin. I tried them on my Ken Smith a while back with the same result. They are not as tight as my usual DR Low riders but I'll use them tonight since I'm out of time. See y'all after the show!

I added a Stage 2 5 from 2006 to compare it with the basic model

Great bass Gerry!

IIRC, the PUT 3 isnt limited in production numbers the way the first two were....can someone verify or point me to differing information??

NO WAXING!!! the bass has a satin finish even though the spec sheet says different
 
O so I shouldn't wax my pnut3? Is it bad for it? Already went through half the can as I wax it a lot.
 
You have a special wife Shadow, mine never encouraged me to buy a bass. She never was against it, true, but yours is at a different level.

Congrats Gerry, you have a really special bass, I am happy to see you are back in da family :-) I know that "new" smell. It is the smell you feel in the factory everywhere, so every time I receive a new bass it remembers me of that special place where they are built :-)

Out of the peanuts I prefer the peanut 2. But the SS2 wins! :)

you are a lucky man. i hear so many times guys usually pay hell from their wives when they want to get new gear.
i think my better half finally realises yeah im very very into learning this stuff, if i ever get on stage he said he'd drop 2k on another wick for me no prob....

well due to the active PUs the SS2 is more 'brilliant' + the serial setting of the p-nuts cuts highs additonaly -
for a better comparison
with the standard SS2 I probalby had use parralel or single coil mode on the MM PU.

I personally dig the sound of all of them:-)

as it has a burl top it had to be satin finished - the color of the finish may darken through the use of wax. I'd rather stop it:-) Dunno if the waxing does other harm to the finish.

The only thing is - don't get the idea to sand of dings or something as it in contrast to an oil finish the sanding will ruin it.

I feel lucky, too, my girlfriend supports me a lot with this, she understand that this is the same as if I like bikes, or golf, or Windsurf, although she always gives me the look when I´m looking at Thomann.de bass pages. ;)
And she has her hobbies, too, so I supported her when she wanted to buy her own digital SLR Nikon last december.

Wow, are u sure? I had a Fna Jazzman with satin finish. I didn't read instructions and tried to wax it, I immediately knew something was wrong. The top and back of my P nut looked felt like raw wood as on my former Corvette and Ss2. When I started waxing, it "took" the wax and really shined when I polished it. In fact, I just double checked it before I posted this and I'm pretty sure it's not satin finish. It didn't smear or slide off. The neck and back have no satin finish for sure.
Can anyone else confirm?

Thank you so much for the sound clips! After owning a SS2 and now the Pnut, I think the biggest difference other than the electronics, is the active front pickup on the SS2. It really gives it that aggressive "nasal" crunch. I gigged the Pnut last night for over 3 hours playing mostly reggae and the bass was so powerful, I had to keep it in single coil mode for most of the night. I also used the "switch up" setting but putting the switch down was too strong for what I was doing. I didn't even go through the pa system and people in the back said they felt me in that good way!

You may be right. the info on Warwick site mentions the first two as limited in production and there is no mention of this in the info for the third. OOPS, better change my signature;)
 
ok, it's clear I don't know much about this line of PNut SS2, but I know one thing for sure. This bass is AWESOME! It's like getting the best parts of several Warwicks. I get the SS2 growl with and "open, air(y)" sound from the open pole passive pickups. When I wear it, it feels like a mix between my former SS2 and NT5 Thumb. It is by far the most versatile bass I've owned. I did ballads, reggae and even rocked out to close a 3 hour gig last night. Funny thing is, my band didn't notice my bass until sound check and they were all walking up to me like...."wait, that's not the Ken Smith!" They love the Smith but every one of them said this bass was "the one!" Even I was so distracted by my tone, that I hit my first "wrong" note on a gig!:x Didn't matter though. We did "Exodus" and "I Shot The Sheriff" in front of one of Bob Marley's former producers and at the break, he said "Yes mr. bassman, nice and steady!" I hope the audio came out well on the camera that filmed most of the gig. If so, I will post it for sure but you would really have to be there to feel it go thru you....Duh, as if I'm not talking to bass players here!
