Frankly, get a Green Russian instead. Those are PHAT as hell on bass and about a third of the price.
 
IME, the problem with Muffs on bass is they cut mids, which makes the bass tend to disappear in the mix. The Bass Big Muff Pi (allegedly a Green Russian variant) attempts to solve this with a choice between bass boost and clean blend, neither of which addresses the actual problem. I bought a Stomp Under Foot Civil Unrest (a "Civil War" Muff clone with a mid boost) about ten years ago and never looked back.

Which of my pedals would you throw on there? Wammy/Wah goes next to it not on top of it.
I am very interested in what you guys would do. It might influence my choices.

Personally, I'd definitely want the tuner, OC-2, Russian Pickle, and one of the comps. Perhaps a second flavor of dirt if I had room, maybe the Darkglass or SansAmp, probably not the Rat.

I would assemble a pedalboard with the PolyTune, either the Black Finger or Diamond compressor, OC-2, RAT, SansAmp YYZ, and the Bass Whammy...
 
I am listening to you guys... OC-2 and DBC being a red thread made me pick those. This fits pretty snug but I am not 100% sure about the YYZ yet. Might throw the Origin DCX or the RAT on there instead.
Having a delay on there is also a lot of fun so decided to add the Atlantic as well.

I'm probably not qualified to identify the "best", since I've only used a few, but I do believe the MXR Bass Comp will get you there. It's impressively transparent, capable of high ratios, and you have control over attack and release. In particular, slowing the attack a bit will keep the compressor from dulling or "choking" your pick attack. Also, the MXR Studio Comp is identical circuitry in a different pedal (strictly for marketing purposes) so if you see a deal on either, either one will get you there.

I personally use a Markbass Compessore, which will also do the trick, but it's bulkier, harder to power, and less transparent. Less transparent in a good way, IMO, but less transparent nevertheless. I also think it's out of production.
 
MXR Multicomp in MB mode most probably will do a proper job indeed! It is the best compressor I never owned in fact.

the MXR I have never tried , I think it is FET but lots of good reviews basically saying it's transparent and it balances / limits
