Corvette $$ 5, B-string/saddle question

My vette $$ 5 is about a month old and the strings are still factory mounted (according to my dealer). I had a closer look at the saddle today and I got confused. Hope you can help me calm down .....

The narrower part of the B-string is mounted over the saddle. Normal?

The B-saddle also looks worn and screwed/bent (for being a new bass). Normal?

Am I paranoid?
 
The Thumb 5 I tried out the other day had the same problem with the string and the sales guy said it was because of the string manufacturer. This is the same sales guy I always go to, so I do have some faith in his answers as I have been buying stuff from him for YEARS. However, I am looking for a second opinion on the matter and if I find out anything, I will certainly post it.
 
hi scubadiver,that's a tapered B string on your bass so it narrows towards the ball end to fit in the tail piece.Yours looks absolutely fine from the pic.The worn appearance is from playing,mines the same.The black chrome finish gets worn off from playing pick style,it doesnt take much to wear it off as I play mostly finger style.
The B string saddle is also adjustable from side to side (string spacing).
 
It looks alright to me. I think the saddle spacing might be set kinda screwy but it's hard to tell from one picture. It's probably just the taper-core meessing with you.
 
As for the string, yeah; taperwound strings are supposed to sit like that.

As for the wear on the saddle... that comes from friction; plain and simple. Is the action on the B slightly high? If so, that saddle is going to rub against the inside of your gig bag more than the others, and if you play with a pick, your hand is going to rub that saddle more than any other... the finish will wear off it faster than the other saddles. No biggie. If you want new saddle pieces, just contact Rob at Dana B. Goods, and he should get you a couple new ones with no problems.
 
I knocked some of the black finish off my E saddle on day one! Also noticed that the black screws on the pickups turned to a shiny silver very quickly (where I rest my thumb).

I think the choice is to get paranoid and replace all the black bits once a month, or relax and decide the "played in" look is rather cool (then maybe get paranoid that it doesn't look "played in" enough!)

I'm back from vacation after a 2-week sailing-tour in the Stockholm (Sweden) archipelago and I just read your answers.

Thanks for answers lads!!! :D It killed my "paranoidity".

I'm still rocking ... (for those who knows the side-effects of living on a boat for a long time.....)

Forgive my ignorance, but would a chrome (or even platim!) hardware warwick have the same black saddle pieces whose color chips off?

All saddles are black.
