Why does my Warwick have green stuff in the grain.

My Warwick has green stuff inbetween the grain on the fingerboard. The fingerboard is Wenge by the way. I've seen quite a few Warwicks with this, it doesn't affect playability and you have to look closely, but it's kind of ugly and disturbs me, lol.

It could be a number of things... dirt, wax, lemon oil, ect.

If you really want to you could break out the tooth pick and go crazy. 8)

Sounds like tarnish run-off from your brass frets. Can happen if your hands are really sweaty or the bass gets wet. Just spray some lem-oil on the fret board and scrub it with a soft tooth brush. Should look good after that.

At least it's not fungus or mold, and unless you pick your nose with your fretting hand, it's not boogers... :lol:

Those are the first things that come to mind when I hear about "green stuff" in the grain...

Rather than steel wool, you can use the green plastic 3M scouring pads you use in the kitchen.

They work just as well, but don't have the disadvantage of metal fragments being attracted to your pickups.

The green stuff is oxidation.The oil from your skin gets in the open pores of the wenge & seeing as the frets are brass,it oxidates.
Clean your fingerboard with lemon oil once every blue moon & your wenge will shine for years to come.

the green stuff ... it is only moss growing out of there... (joke) no just clean it up since is build up stuff. takes some time and effort but those clean fretboards are niiiiiice! :wink:
