Which strings do you use on your Corvette STD?

If you go for coated strings and have the cash layin around, either the EMP's or Elixir mediums work well. if you're not into the coated thing, try D'Addario Slowounds.
As for flats, I'm not a big fan of them, but if you're looking for something that will definitely give you a completely different sound to work with, RotoSound Black Nylon flats make for some interesting noises... ~M~

I've been through the roundabouts with finding strings that sound great (for a long time). I've come to the conclusion: Elixir
After realizing that not all strings fit nice and neat into Warwicks, you 've got to go with tapered. And the proper scale length (34") helps, as I've busted a string due to getting extra long's before.
I've tried Black Beauties, but after a while, they die hard. You'll know because they'll sound extremely terrible. They don't last as long as Elixirs, either.
I recently put on some Thomastik Infeld Superalloys, and they went bland rather quickly (week) as well. They sounded AMAZING for the first couple days, but after that... Great if you like a flat tone, but I'm seriously considering putting my old pair of Elixirs back on.
Even my bass professor here at college has commented that nothing sounds as good as what I used to have on my bass, which was Elixirs.
So long story short, I support Elixirs 100% and my bass does too.
The only thing, you might have to turn your high's down a tad.

Hey again Isa.
I use just D'Addario Ultra Lights on my pro-line and they are pretty decent strings. If i had the money to do more expirimention though, i'd probbaly end up useing Fodera's. I must say, avoid Fender strings by any means possible, every set ive ever gotten has been complete trash. In the end, it boils down to what kind of tone, comfort and longevity you want to get out of the strings. Steel is generally brightest, and they last a good while to. My favourite steels are Rotosounds, I string my vintage basses with em, and my fretless to to get a good Jaco tone. Enrie Ball and GHS are good steels to. Nickle strings are my favourites, they are a tad warmer than steel and respond better to strong magnetic pickups (like a $$). My favourite nickles are D'Addarios, DRs and Foderas. Theres also Half wound or Pressure wound. These strings are good for studio situations or for people that need a good pallette of tones, they have moderate brightness and a very smooth feel. D'addarios and Rotosounds are incredible in that department. Then theres flatwounds, my least favourite, which i have nicknamed tone killers. Very flat, very warm. D'addario chromes, Rotosounds, GHS, and Thomastik Infeld are good names. Finnaly, theres taper wound strings. They are very boomy and have a very unique studio charecter to them. La Bellas are my favourite here, and Rotosound TruBass strings are allright to. I dont know much about coated strings beside the fact that I didnt like elixers and that DR peacock blues were some of the best strings ive ever played.
If i were you, id save like 200 bucks and buy every set of strings you can get your hands on, and just take a real lab approch to getting comfortable with strings. If your low on cash, Try Rotosound 66's, D'Addario Nickles, D'Addario Half Wound, Thomastik Infeld flats or Roto Flats, La Bella Taperwound and DR or Elixer Coated strings.
I hope you find a good set of strings for your std, worst comes to worse just grab some warwicks. Drop a line if you have anyother questions.

I think Doc has summed up the differnces between each type of string really well. It does depend what tone and feel you're looking for.
Personally I find steels a bit too bright, and prefer nickels. Nickels also feel a bit more comfortable than steels to me. After trying loads of strings, I keep coming back to Ernie Ball - they seem to give me the sound I'm looking for with my $$ and with my Fenders (although flats sound great on a Precision if you're after a tradition blues sound).
It all comes down to preference - personally I don't like the feel of Rotosound steels, but loads of people swear by them.

OK, I have a question. For us 5 string players, do you really experiment with strings all that much with the tail piece being so narrow as to make it hard to use anything but taperwound string? I am playing warwick yellow labels. I like the nickle better than steels, but I have not found that many TW 5 string sets.

KD- String experiments to fit Warwick 5's have been an ongoing part of my life for years. One thing I have found is that some sets will fit certain Warwicks but not others. I used to run SloWounds exclusively on my Thumb but they won't fit my SN5 or NT5 Infinity's. They will sort of fit the 'Vette 5 but I have to trim some of the cloth winding on the B to clear the nut. Black Beauty's fit the SN5 quite well and I'd use them more than I do but I've gotten a couple of sets that were great, others that were dead out of the box. BB's fit the Vette just fine but don't sound good on it. Elixir's do wonders on the Vette and SN but won't fit the NT. The best strings for the NT5 I've found yet are DR LongNecks, tapered and just right in length to clear the nut but not be too thick to wrap on the B's post (which makes them too long to fit the SN or Vette). It's a challenge to be sure... Black Labels and EMP's are the ONLY strings I've found that fit all my basses but I like to do different things than Warwick strings allow for so the quest continues... ~M~

SIT Silencers are my absolute favorite. They're smooth to the touch, have a just-right tension for me, and add warmth, heft, and fatness to the bass' inherent tone. I get a nice fuzz when I pluck right by the neck. I get the obnoxious nasal snarl when I play up by the bridge. I get the best of everything when I play between the pickups.
I've heard many times over from people that "The Corvette Standard is MADE for DR Hi-Beams." I'd like to hear a soundclip of a Corvette Standard with Hi-Beams.

Here You are- maybe not exactly what you've asked for, but:
these are DR Lo riders (J. Lo
) on my passive Vette Pro line.
I've recorded just few notes through every register of the instrument, so You could hear why these are excellent, funky strings
recorded straight into my crappy AC97 soundcard, I did nothing with the record- it's not gained, so the level of recording is little low because of the passive instrument.
same situation, but in this case the recording is gained, I've added also a little of reverb:
all I can say is that I love DR's because of having "character" if You know what I mean- they are not "transparent" in sound.
Another strings I love are La Bellas- also great strings.
If I've got to record something "different"- I restrung my bass with La Bella flats, or, If I ain't got no money with Fender flats.

Thanks Vlad. Were those Lo-Rider steels or nickels? I've tried Lo-Rider nickels on my 'Vette and though they're excellent strings that really grew on me (I even recorded some with those), Silencers just felt so right for me.
I'm with you in that I like strings with some character, and it always amazes me that strings from different companies made from the same materials can feel and sound so different.
