What was your first bass?

Just wondering what everyones very first bass was. Does anyone still have their first bass? Mine was a crappy Squire P-bass that I played thru a no-name brand 10 watt guitar amp. It sure did sound horrible. I ended up throwing it in the garbage because the input jack fell out.
 
I had a Peavey generic P bass. My brother has it. I think. Put a DiMarzio pickup in it and it sounded great.
 
... min was a cheap Washburn, a Precision copy made of agglomerated wood ... :?
 
Yamaha BB404

A bit limited tone-wise; couldn't intonate the E string right for some reason; and a sharp fret somewhere! OK as a starter bass though!

I ebayed it a while ago!
 
A 1980 Ibanez Blazer, I started early '90s and my sisters girlfriend(yes you read well) played bass and lend(and shortley after, gave) me this one.

Precision, four string and I loved it...nowadays it's a struggle too play(action sucks, PU etc. aren't that well) but this will never leave and come to think of it I think I should start working on getting her in a better state.

This is the one that got the party started and not that bad a start...

That's a good place to start! I wish I'd gone straight to Rockbass... I spent a fortune buying and selling... even with expensive basses!
 
A Kay, SG copy, single pickup, made of plywood. Couldn't intonate the thing at all. Great to learn on cause it's so hard to play, you have to really work for it. Get a decent bass in hand, seems like a breeze. I still have it, it's at me Dad's in Canada, it was a Christmas present, I tend to keep those.
 
I started on a Kay P bass - it looked really nice...neck thru, dark wood either side but the truss rod was broken and the neck was like a banana! I played it for a couple of years before I was given my Yamaha as a present.

I smashed the Kay later on 'Who' stylee!
 
Mine was a red Yamaha BBVIs short scale precision style (no longer produced)- still have it in the loft too - my brother borrowed it for a while and gradually "reliced" it for me lol, added a preamp too - still a good bass really and 25 years old too! :D
 
A Soundgear by Ibanez. Don't know the model, but my nephew plays it in his band now...
 
My very first bass was an Ibanez BTB 6-string. I had traded all my guitar gear for bass gear and my friend who plays bass suggested to get a 5-string for the low B.

I liked the look of the BTB and the shop only had a 6-string. I figured since I never played bass before, I might as well learn with two extra strings.

It really wasn't a bad bass at all, but I ended up selling it last year to help fund the six Warwicks I bought since last March! :shock:

Wow, today's my Birthday, and the end of next month marks my 1st Year Anniversary as a Warwick owner. 8)
 
Yamaha BB G4 SII, as described in my signature.

I still have it, and I played it yesterday for a while as a matter of fact. Great instrument, great quality. Sound is definitely not me; horrible midrange coming from the neck pickup, and it lacks serious amount of lowend balls. But with some tweeking, I can get a decent classic rock sound out of it. It's just so different than my Warwicks, and like I said, it's a great instrument. I wish the new RBX A4 would be available as a 5 stringer...............Yeah, I trust Yamaha. :wink:
 
When I was 12 I saved up for a Vantage prescision copy that cost me £90 new. It was turquise blue and fairly nasty. I played it for a year or two and learned that it gave me a lot of speed and dexterity as it was so difficult to play. Then I moved on to an Aria Pro II Integra which was cool as yer man from Faithnomore played one, Then a Squier Jazz, then a MM Sterling, a RB Streamer fretless, My Fender and now my Thumb.

I think any bass regardless of Name or value will make you accomplish more than you thought you would, if you're prepared to put in a bit of graft. I guess you just want to keep progressing or you dont. Throughout my teens I watched a lot of my friends just give up on the guitar or bass, as to them it just seemed like a cool thing to do for a short period of their lives. Now the folk I hang about with all seem to be totally engrossed in this lifestyle and i wouldnt give it up for anything :D

My story is exactly the same, only I still have my Squier =)
It says Bullet Bass but it is definately a P bass
 
Wow, that was 32+ years ago! I have no idea, it was some bass my parents bought in the classifieds, probably a used bass that someone originally ordered from Sears or something, absolute el-cheapo. But, it was my introduction to playing bass. It's long gone, since I couldn't afford to have more than one bass when I was in school. Also learned about buckle rash with that one (at least I learned that lesson with a CHEAP bass!) - the back of the body looked like it had been in a war-zone. I don't even remember what I got for it; I'm sure it wasn't much. Ended up getting a Gibson EB-2 as a replacement (it's also long gone...).
 
The first bass I had the opportunity to play was the school's SG copy which I fostered for the 6 week summer holiday one year.

The first bass I owned was bought for me by my parents - a Hohner Jack which I thought was the dogs ******** at the time!! And I still have it!!
 
my first bass was a Fender 75' Musicmaster. Still my favourite... love her to death.
