What effects do you use?

No effects.
Just the SansAmp Bass Driver when I want a more overdriven sound

Mala: how is the EBS Multidrive?
I`m not entirely pleased with the Digitech X-driver, and looking for replacement. I want a distortion that not just puts itself on the side of the original signal, like many tend to. I can "blend", but thus loosing the bassiness.

Btw, I`ve listened to the samples on the homepage, and though the "standard"-sounds where just ok, the flat and tube were quite interesting. Always nice to have a second opinion. :)

Well, because I have a contract with EBS I think it's great, very versatile and really made for bass. Everything from Tube overdrive to heavy distorsion. I would probably have chosen it even if I didn't work with them / mats

I've also tried the multidrive and I really liked it. I'll buy a Fulltone Bassdrive instead, but it's clearly my close second choice.

My board. Not the clearest picture but you can make out most of it. Not pictured is the lovely wheeled flight case it travels in. Before anyone asks I know I'm the bass player :) but I don't half have some fun with this set up.

wow, the last entry was in may ;)

well.
i've got a cheap Behringer Bass Overdrive Pedal
it souns funny.

maybe some other time better effects :)

Now this post is back, I shall help it keep going.

I plug into a home made A/B+bypass loop box. A/B to tune, loop for my Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk Envelope filter. Here into Aphex Punch Factory compressor->EBS Octabass->Sansamp and out to my amp.

Currently have a borrowed 70's USA Big Muff in there too, but it's pretty full on.

I play clean 99% of the time.

I don' t use any effects but i would like buying :
EBS Octabass
EBS microbass II
Pigtronix Phaser

Is it just me or does everybody else put a very short reverb on their fretless basses?

I love Reverb on Fretless, great for those slow passages. What's even better is a true Stereo Chorus, great for harmonics. I use a Boss VF-1 which has nearly every effect imaginable for Guitar, Keyboard, Vocals, and of course Bass, all of which can be applied to Bass.

i'd like to try one of those preamp/di box from sansamp or ebs...as soon as i get some money :D

I`m currently looking for a good effect to remove noise and tighten the sound, like the sound Martinie has, or Zender. The compressor on my ME-8B is far too limited, and when adding distiortion to a recording, I usually get some electric noise as well.

Any recommendations?

get a dbx160A, you can pickup one on ebay for a few hundred bucks, I use to compress bass in the studio all the time. And it works miracles in getting a very tight sound. I don't have one in my rack as of yet, something about the X-TREME 10.1 makes me feel really comfortable about my tone.

- What effects do you fellow fretless players use?

- I have a Line 6 Space Chorus and a Tech 21 Bass DI. The DI pumps the sound great but I've noticed that since I switched to fretless my chorus has lost alot of it's kick.

- Curious to see what other fretless players are using.

I use reverb and a BBE 264R exciter. It works great on the string tone and growls.

O

also on my-want-to-buy list:

a KORG effect shit something it's about 170 euro's i think
maybe it's usefull :P

This one looks interesting. How about the Distressor (Empirical Labs)? Ever had exp. with that?

OK

I use an Aphex compresser and an Aphex Bass Exciter - these two form my "pre-amp" - so I don't change the controls or have much EQ on the amp (unless there's a problem with the room). I try to keep the settings subtle - so you don't notice they're switched on - you just notice if you switch them off (if you see what I mean) - then I adjust the controls on the bass to suit the song - or the mood!

I also have a Boss Chorus - (just edited this bit - I said it wasn't very good - but I've just had another play with it and found I had the effect level knob too low - in fact it has a good range of sounds for the price - almost get a flangey type sound out of it - be better run in stereo though)

My favorite pedal is the Boss tuner - you can check your tuning anytime - and it also works as a mute pedal if you need it
