We Are Broke, Need Help!!!

imho - the less relation to Warwick the better.

The Warwick Forum was the roots - now it is something different.

I think the point is that this forum is seen more like an uncontrolable nuisance where people talk about boobs, beer and basses with close to zero impact.
It was only Flo's good relation to HPW that saved the content I think.

:)

Sorry, this is wrong. It’s not boobs, beer and basses but basses, beer and boobs! This IS important! It’s the order of the relevance.

We don’t need more than 10 or 20 active members. But we need the right content to attract more people to stay here. Two main topics should be the core of it imo. How to play your Warwick and... how to solve problems of your Warwick.

Otoh you are perfectly right, Schlo: we should give a f*** about HPWs opinions. He changes them quickly. Let’s bring „Warwick“ back into the name of this forum.

I strongly disagree with this. In fact, I think it was/is a mistake to call this place "The Bass Arena" or whatever, it should be The Warwick (unofficial?) Forum. If this becomes just another bass forum, then why would people come back here instead of going to talkbass, basschat and other fora that actually have some traffic? What sets this place apart is the knowledge, insight and interest in Warwick basses.

One might think that the community here is something special, but I'm pretty sure that any newcomers really won't see it that way. They'll see a bass forum with next to no traffic, and some returning members that hide out in hidden areas for supporting members only, and a chat box with humor internal to those same members.

I agree with this very very much, although @eyvindwa obviously didn't know about HPW's objection in using "Warwick" anywhere in the forum's name.

So, the way I see it, there's two ways we could be related to Warwick:

a) Financial support
b) Using the name as in Unofficial Warwick Forum

Apparently a) is not that critical and the forum can sustain itself.
About b), HPW has specifically asked we do not use the Warwick name. But if we could use it, it would be AWESOME for the forum (in my opinion).

So, because I am a bit stubborn and persistent:

I am looking into why HPW doesn't want us to use the name. The most obvious reason I can think of is the problems we had IN THE PAST with security, hacking, all sorts of trouble, things which were a serious liability for Warwick. A user that registered in the W forum could end up being hacked.

So, if the main reason is this, and we could provide serious guarantees that there are no more security issues, that they are absolutely and completely a thing of the past, perhaps HPW would change his mind. But we have to convince him

a) There is no problem whatsoever with security anymore, and also provide some way for him to make sure there is indeed no problem, some kind of guarantee
b) That the forum does indeed help Warwick as it would help any other brand, when functioning properly of course.

If we tackle these two points we could convince him. I have something in mind, writing an open letter that we, all as forum members, approve of. We sign it by name, surname, country and year of registration and we send it to him. We can send a mass e-mail for anyone that wants to contribute to the signatures. I believe we can do this. We deserve that name! And getting the name will make the expenses problem easier as well. Plus we get a more lively forum again.

What do you guys think???

I think he likes control. He would have to control this forum and he does not have or doesn’t like to deploy the resources of working time to do so. Big international dealers, Facebook, Instagram, Bandcamp and the big names to endorse Warwick - that is his strategy. We don’t fit into this all.

Actually the reason we are not allowed to use it is not THAT complicated. The name, the brand, the logo, are his. Nobody can use them. Remember in the past when we created some Tshirt Designs?
He forbidden us to buy them from Zoltan (the pic with little basses that form a W). Instead, he used the design to create a very successful Tshirt design (I still have a couple of them), without giving any credit (or cash) to Zoltan.
He doesn't want us to use Warwick name or logo, because they are his property. And really, any conversation with him about this is very verv short :) It is not about security, and other reasons we must think.
.........................................................

Now we do have a domanin, and believe me moving to a new domain is a pain in the ass (Oh, I forgot about domain renewal, but it is not that expensive).
Believe me WE DON'T WANT A NEW DOMAIN NAME!!!
But, we could do our logo, and in description - "The unofficial Warwickhead forum"
I don't think this is an issue.
What do you think?

Thanks for the insights Flo. I more or less figured this is the case after an older conversation of ours. But I find it a bit ridiculous that a group of people can not put together a forum for users of a specific brand of instruments. That shouldn't be illegal. Harley Davidson bikers should be able to set up a fan forum for their bikes, so do we, so does anyone. Do we know if we can protect ourselves by using a public disclaimer that we are not affiliated in any way with Warwick, that Warwick name and logo are registered trademarks blah blah blah. I mean, we are not selling anything!!!

Does anyone here know someone with basic legal knowledge about this stuff? I don't like the idea of confrontation with HPW in any way, but we could at least learn how things work.

Your idea about cleverly modifying the name is very very interesting.

As for the domain name, I was dreaming that we could be the Warwick Unofficial Forum again and that our domain name was www.wuf.com. Wuf! Wuf!

Only Hardy ! lol
I like your thinking but sounds like its off the table with the impression i get of from Flo

I agree with anything except domain name. Changing it now would be a huge mistake, and a big pain in the ass. Just think about hosting issues, settings, SEO, and the list continues...

Besides a steady group of "Tordenskiolds soldiers" users who already know this place one thing that might make this forum stand out even more compared to general bass related fora such as basschat and talkbass would be to emphasize a bit the common interest for W.r.i.k equipment.
Some years ago there was a forum completely dedicated to SG instruments. Everything about it was SG. Built out of interest and without affiliation with any manufacturer of instruments. Besides the discussion forum there was a very nice reference section with old brochures, catalogues etc. At some point the forum was sold and then the forum was "upgraded" and suddenly all this reference information disappeared forever. Along with that many of the users which had a specific interest in these instruments - and who brought a wealth of knowledge to the forum.
It might add to the profile if we had such collection of information related to these instruments ... especially for newcomers. It doesn't have to go to the extend of www.ovationtribute.com or www.squierwiki.com - but a sharper profile around what is the niche of this forum might be good.

Just an idea ...

The protected name "Warwick" in the forum name can be very expensive in case of dispute!
I had this case many years ago with my band "Bryan - the Bryan Adams Tribute"
Since the value in dispute was equal to 200 K € :(

That's how Bryan Adams won and my band, website and all sources were deleted. Unbelievable how precisely this work is done ...

@Bogart05, thanks for your feedback/experience.

We are 14 Supporting Members (recurring) raising about 49 EUR monthly, and we had some extra one time donations (no nrecurring supporting memebr, and sponsor) that helped us a lot.
We could use a few more Supporting Members, but we are pretty much OK now.
One thing I would do with 8-10 extra supporting members- I would install the xenforo native mobile app, which seems cool, but costs 20 $ per month.
With 100 extra supporting members, I could contact any bass player/ teacher in the world to do custom videos for us on regular basis, to answer musical issues that our buddies are facing :)
