Hello people.

Today I've been talking with a shop owner, who told me that he used to work with Warwick, and that he knew HP Wilfer.

He told me that "only the high end Warwicks are made in Germany, the low end ones being made in Asia". I told him "the Rockbass series, you mean?". He told me "no, even some Warwicks are made in China and Korea. You know, Hans Peter is more of a businessman than a bass builder, he spends half of his time in China, and a few times ago, his main concern was building and selling gigbags (Rockbags) rather than basses... He's very rude in business, and calling him a "slave driver" wouldn't be a mistake".

So... What to think ? :x

Sounds like the guy is a liar and full of himself... Someone who really deserves to be punched in the face :)

The key word here is that he "used" to work for Warwick. Sounds like a classic case of a disgruntled ex-employee to me. From people I've talked with that know Hans-Peter personally, have had nothing but great things to say about him. And consider what HP did for the forum recently with the free member posters shipped to a lot of the members here.

However, it would be nice to get an official statement.

There was a short-lived production of the Dolphin bass in Japan though!

I dont know what to think, i mean you can never be sure! I definitly think HP is a business man with every means, i mean to make it you need to be hard and sometimes a jackass. I definitly dont think the Warwicks are made in Asia, that would be a crime to say its made in Germany when its made in in an asian country.

I don't care. I use high end Warwicks and they sound and look amazing. That's all that matters to me. If HP is an ass than good for him, he can be because he obviously knows what he's doing. Plus I'm sure that there are other people dealing with the production of Warwicks weather they are in Japan, Germany, or Antarctica shouldn't matter as long as the end product is solid. But I also agree with Casey that if you're company is built around the idea of the greatness of German engineering then lets keep it in Germany. That is if the rumor stated above is true.

I am curious about UFOs, Grey Aliens, area 51, the afterlife and talking to spirits. What you see and hear on TV and stuff about these topics is just, or mostly, a hoax and blah blah. I am interested in the truth, and there is no room for speculations. Hence, I don't care what that dude is claiming.

I think crap like this really doesnt need to be discussed here.

I agree with Greg...

It diminishes us to speculate on a person's character (HPW's for instance) based on rumer or the opininion of 'some guy'.

Warwicks from Asia? Where are these aleged factories located? Some guitars from China? Which ones are from China? Does sound like this story is origionating from 'some guy's angry place'. :x

So unless anyone has evidence of Warwick's being built in Asia, I second Greg's motion... :!: (NHS)

Now that I've had my morning coffee I think i know why this guy said all this shit.
He says some basses are made in Asia. This was once true, remember the Dolphin Pro2?Now discontinued.
HP spends alot of time in China, that's true.He owns a factory there.
Let's not forget that warwick dont only build basses. It's amazing how many different things they make when you look into it.Naturally,HP oversees all of these areas of produstion regardless of their locations.
If you look at an ad for employment at warwick you'll see their working day is longer than 8 hours.I doubt Warwick would've expanded as quickly as they have if the man up top was a slave driver.Let's face it,most of us have a nick name for our boss.
Now let's end this gossip & take this opportunity to thank Hans peter for giving us this forum.Pretty generous imo.

Hear Hear!! (raises a glass to Hans Peter)

and again, I second Greg's motion!! :D

Lets drop the gossip...and answer my Taranis poll instead!! 8)

(heh, heh, answer my Taranis pole...heh heh)

Simple answer... Warwicks are made in Germany,
Hans Peter spends a lot of time in China. That's why rockbasses are that good :-) But don't worry, he spends more time in Germany anyway.

WGAF if the bass is good? ;)

Both of mine are great, I couldn't care less where they were made, or by whom!

its easy to talk crap on a person when hes not there to defend himself.

another case of a disgruntled employee ...

I wud care if my bass was made by 10 year olds for 2p a day! I think that kind of production is unacceptable, and would stop using warwick products if it were the case. However at the moment I believe that certainly the basses are made in germany and I have no reason to believe that child labor or cheap labor is being used.

Yeah, I would have a problem with that too. However, I think that people who build the RockBasses in China get paid a lot better than people who make plastic toys.

why do you say that?

I don't know really, it just seems likely. I think I recall seeing a piece on the TV about labour issues in China, and that instrument builders were paying higher wages than other companies.

For what it's worth, here is an interesting quote from the "Handmade in China" Tag included with the Deluxe Rockbag that recently came with my new Warwick Bass:

Rockbag by Warwick said:
No Child Labour

Rockbag by Warwick guarantees that no children under the age of fourteen are involved in the manufacture of any of our Rockbag products. We achieve our highly favourable price and quality by using the latest state-of-the-art sewing machines as well as our Design Computer. Furthermore, Rockbag by Warwick guarantees to abide by all international labour laws.

I have no reason to believe that Warwick would be involved in anything untoward in it's labour force in China. Not that I'm naive enough to believe everything I read, but I get the feeling that Warwick is a pretty decent company.

Don't get me wrong - I'm sure that Warwick pay it's workers in China far less than they pay people in Germany - that's what Chinese production is all about - cheap labour...but low wages in China aren't confined to factory workers.

I recently worked in China teaching Computer Systems Engineering in a Chinese University for seven weeks.

My Chinese teaching colleagues earn over TWENTY times less than I earn in Australia. These people have University degrees and are professors in computer science and mathematics. Smart guys with a good education - and yet despite their low wages they have enough to live comfortably, love their jobs and are genuinely happy.

I know that some pretty terrible stuff goes on in China of course...I just don't see Warwick being part of it.

;)

He simply couldn't be a 'slave driver' in his european business...have you seen EU labour laws? Those crackers take their wellbeing seriously!!!
