Warwick Abuse!!!

Staring a few seconds at the vid it's enough to understand the bassist nice attitude towards our beloved Thumb.
This band -please do not offend fans out there- is nothing but iconic.
They have invented nothing, nor the heavy metal with added scratches, nor the tapping style, nor the guitar feedback, nor the timber of the singer, nor the noisy final with flames, light games and whatever, nor the double pedal on the drum and not even the finger invitation to the public..
They respond to precise canons of appearance, style and spectacularity, so it is normal they destroy their instruments in the same old sort of nichilist night event.
Many artist have done this before them, I personally don't like this behaviour, but I have to admit it sticks perfectly on the characters involved.

Very good point. Indeed, when mentioning a band like Slipknot, at least I think of angry music with a lot of screaming, fire, explosions, middlefingers, destruction, blood, spitting.....................nevertheless, Paul Grey is indeed "gentle" with his Thumb bass by just carefully using the bottom of the bass to ruin..............just a drum skin, and leaving his bass there. At first it seems very "brutal", but after thinking about it for a while............it's kinda sweet.................he is actually very careful. :wink:
 
I still think its kinda stupid... But I also wax my bass like crazy... So I can't say much.
 
A final note on Slipknot...a lot of people like to bad mouth them but from all the years I've been following them they have proven to be one of the most amazing bands around. Some of the most kick ass modern metal songs have come from this band. Any group like this that can hold it together on stage with nine different guys jumping around is something to be said. The fact they have had the same lineup for almost 10 years is impressive. Many people say the extra drummers, sampler etc. are unnessary but in fact the addition of these guys makes a sick tapestry of sound. I also hear from those that have met them that they are cool, down to earth guys. Paul, despite the Thumb slamming, is an awesome bass player and adds a ton to the bands sound. He is a good example of playing what is good for the song. I believe in their early days around '99 he mostly played a Corvette, on Iowa I think he mostly used a Thumb and finally on Vol. 3 he started using Streamers along with his Thumb. He occasionally used an Ibanez ATK live which was the direct inspiration for the design of the new Paul Gray signature bass. I was really bummed when I heard he switched as the Warwick growl was so much a part of Slipknot's sound. I am really hoping that he is stiil going to deploy them along with his signature bass on thier album that is supposed to be out next year. As for the smash through the drum head, it just shows he knows how strong Warwicks are built :)

I wouldn't say I dig everything they did, but the musicianship on London Calling is _far_ from horrible.

Now that song and Rock the Kasbah are the only good songs from that genre!And to reiterate an earlier post, it was only a joke! :d
 
Let me tell you that I met Corey Taylor and James Root (Slipknot's singer and guitarist) last monday, after Stone Sour's show.

The guys are so down to earth and so close to their fans... Awesome. Corey is a great chap !

i didnt meen 2 cause offence with the metal comment, and with regard 2 dragon force they are amazing instrumentalists, but there songs are not musical, at least not in my opinion, they are more about showman ship. My point about power ballads, was that they are cheasy, not bad, in essesence many people enjoy cheese as a genre not just as part of there music. I just think most (not all) metal is considerablly cheesy, i don't h8 it, Its just not realy my favourate music.

I met a lot of musicians... Fieldy (Korn), Trivium's, Machine Head's, Stone Sour's, Sum 41's, Muse's guys...
 
It's all down to Ian's French charm,if you think he gets to meet alot of rock stars,imagine the chicks he gets.OOOOO baby,the chicks. :P

Last time Slaye was in Oslo, we went to Burger King to eat. Who stood in front of me? Kerry King. Made me wanna make a rhyme there...

But I also got to have a little chat with Jason Newstead during the Cunning Stunts-show in Oslo. Nice guy.

Other than that, It`s just black metal-celebrities for me. :roll:

It's just part of rock n roll, dudes. His bass, his show, his prerogative.

Now, I hate to be flippant about this (I'd never hurt one of my bass babies, believe me) but ... it's kinda like Doritos; they'll make more!
