Aehmmm... well, I have another doubt!

It is related with english terms and expressions... there are different finishes for basses: oil finished, coloured oil finished, satin finished... Well, what finish is my SSI? It may sound ridicolous, but I don't know the exact meanings of these expressions. Is my bass natural oil finished? Should I post some more pics?

I'm asking because I've seen some dark zones (a little bit darker than the wood) here and there on the maple, and I'd like to find out if I can do something about it, and if there is some product I DON'T have to use on this kind of finish... I don't really worry about the look of the instrument, it is vintage, it is alright... just wondering if wood may get "sick", and start somehow degrading.

I'm not sure that I know what the problem is but I assume that you are referring to the wood is a little darker where the knot in the maple wood is. This is perfectly normal and your bass looks in great condition for its age. I'd just wax it and be happy :wink:

The wax will prevent that gorgous maple from absorbing the sweat/oil from the hands.

If you're buying it without playing first get a good picture of the back of the neck round the headstock, and the back of the body.

I think it is to check if the headstock was broken and repaired, that is a damage not so uncommon (but may God protect all of us from it!!!). That's my opinion.

It's really hard to tell if that is a repair or just a characteristic of the wenge grain. If you could take pics from different angles you might be able to tell better... however! If it is stable and doesn't appear to be giving any problems then I wouldn't worry about it. 'If' it has been repaired, sometimes the repairs can be as strong/stronger than the original timber.

Does the bass tune up and stay in tune OK?

Yes its ok, looks solid, sounds great, intonations is ok. But look at this pics, looks like some kind of glue was used.
