U2 - Adam Clayton with Warwick - live!

God i hate U2 but that inverted stryker is beyond BEAUTIFUL!

Those are some handsome basses. I always liked the stryker headstocks and p/u configuration.

Inverted Stryker // Also, what model is A. Claytons' other Warwick?

Can anyone tell me which model 'this' (photo below) is?

As for the 'inverted Styker' bass in question, maybe it's a custom order job? Because it also has the Buzzard style headstock instead of the more quared off headstock on a normal Stryker.

Adam's inverted 'Stryker' does say Stryker on the headstock.

thought he had a Lakland Deal:-)

Adam's used Lakland bass a lot during the Elevation (2001) and Vertigo (2005/2006) tours but he was also using Fender Jazz bass' too. So I don't think his 'deal' was to use Lakland exclusively.

So far on the U2:360 tour, that began June 30th, he's been using a Gibson RD bass, Gibson Triumph LP Recording bass (both used in the studio but he'd not used live until this tour), He's also a Fender Jazz that was refinished gold sparkle, a Fender Precision that was refinished gold sparkle, a candy apple red Fender Precision and white Fender Precision... these along with the inverted Stryker and the other (i'm not sure of the model, someone mentioned "Streamer"?).

Adam does have a Buzzard and used it in the studio. I've seen video of that at U2.com a while back. But I've not seen him use it live, as of yet.

The other one is a quite normal Streamer indeed.

It sure has to be a custom job, but Strykers nowadays have the Buzzard headstock. Only the first few ones had the rectangular 2+2 Warwick headstock.

I also saw live pics of the Gibson EB2/Epiphone Rivoli out of the Get Off Your Boots vid.

Thanks for the heads up on the Streamer model.

I didn't know that the Stykers now had the Buzzard-like headstock. It does look cool, doesn't it?

And you are correct - Adam has at least (2) Epiphone Rivoli bass. One is a natural that seems to be the main bass for "Get On Your Boots". He also has a tobacco sunburnst Rivoli that he used during some of the promo shows for the U2:360 tour.

I'm amazed at how many pictures are surfacing of this tour!

Oh, and by he way, from the looks of it the streamer has mirrored-P pickups, so it's not a "stock" streamer...

He's also a Fender Jazz that was refinished gold sparkle, a Fender Precision that was refinished gold sparkle, a candy apple red Fender Precision and white Fender Precision...

Rumor has it that these are original custom color vintage basses, sold at Rudy's Music in New York City for a HUGE amount of money (6-figures)... would love to know if this is true...

The sparkle Precision and sparkle Jazz were refinished bass guitars. I am not sure of what they were previously. They are probably from the mid-60's. Adams' favored (it seems) Fender era.

The Candy Apple Red and White with tortoise pickguard have been with Adam for a while. I don't think he's toured with the red one before now.

Similarly, He's not used his Gibson RD Artist, Gibson Triumph LP Recording bass on tour before U2:360 tour - although he's had both since - at least - the Achtung Baby sessions in 1990-1991.

Glad to see the Warwicks being played. Spectacular looking and sounding. Hope he breaks out the Buzzard soon! That thing looks and sounds menacing!

The inverted Stryker looks phenomenal. The headstock and body angles complement each other facing down.
It looks like some giant weapon you can grab from the neck, from a video game or something. I'd say it does
the word "axe" justice. I can imagine its ergonomics are great as well, with the bottom part of the body
balancing the rest of the bass and the long upper horn. And a big headstock works wonders for tone. Me likey.

Are you sure about the 'Star Bass'? Do yo have a picture?

Just wondering. Is it possible that you've mistaken the Epiphone Rivoli for the Star Bass? Adam's been using a Epiphone Rivoli for "Get On Your Boots".

Check 0:36 seconds into the following video from the Brit Awards - Unless there's been a change, he's been using the Epiphone Rivioli for "Get On Your Boots:

As for Warwick, seems the Stryker is being used for "Breathe" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday":

Here's video of Adam with the Stryker "Breathe" Cardiff - August 22, 2009:

The amps are not Hellborg but Aguilar I think.

I don't believe an upside down Stryker excists. One of your PhotoShop jokes, Jan? :)

The amps are definitely Aguilar.

After seeing the various awards shows and early tour video from Europe, I noticed that Adam Clayton had some new amps. I was curious so I contacted Aguilar to find out what items of there's Adam was using and sent them off some pictures from the shows. Aguilar's response below:

Hi Jeffrey,

The rig Adam is using in those shots is a DB 750 amplifier with a DB 410 cabinet and a DB 115 cabinet (both cabinets in Classic Black). We appreciate you adding the links. They are as follows:

(3)

The heads are kept with his tech off stage for easy adjustment.

Please let me know if there is anything else that we can help you with.

I don't have picture, but the bass I refered to looks nothing like the one in this video. I think its a Starbass Bubinga.

Nice.

What show were you at? Do you remember which song he used it on? If so, let me know I can probably locate video and/or a piccy.

Thanks.

Cool. I should be able to find information based on that. I will post any pictures and/or video that I find.

I just looked at the product profile for the Star Bass II Bubinga... WOW, beautiful instrument!

More to come...
