Thumb Bass Owners I Have A Question

I have a question why is the body shape diffrent on the Bolt-on and Neck-Thru? I like the way BO's look better than NT. What do yall think?. Is there any sound diffrence between the 2? I'm going to hopefully going to purchace a Thumb BO at the end of the summer :D , and was wanting to find out that little bit of info. from people who already own one.

Hello Ben,

The two instruments are different. The thumb NT bass has an ebony fingerboard and it's made out of bubinga, not to mention the neck-through construction. Also the Thumb NT has a 3-way electronic circuit while the BO has only a 2way system.

The body construction is different because the Thumb NT has 26 frets instead of 24 like the Bolt On.
 
Thanks, I wasnt too sure about the entire diffrence other than the shape, wood, and that ones a BO and the others a NT

The BO s entirely made of ovangkol and has a wenge fretboard. But you have to decide if you want a neck-thru of not. Just the diference between construction affects the sound of the bass not to mention the wood and eletronics. I am personaly not a big fan of neck-thru basses but that is just me. I sugest that you try them both and see wich bass suits you best.
 
The BO and NT are different animals, and both great for their own reasons. I love 'em both.

I would love to play on a NT but there are only BO's around, but in about a month I'm hopefully going to play on a NT just to try it out and see how I like it, but when I do make my purchace on a Warwick it will most likely be a Thumb BO 5 because its the only Thumb I have ever played and fell in love with it over all the other Warwick's and for that I need more money for the NT... but I would be happy either BO or NT :wink:

NT basses will give a longer natural sustain and the Thumb NT has been the choice of many players over many years.

NT all the way! The BO and NT are basically completely different guitars, the only similarities are the body shape and pickup placement really...

Kinda like comparing an SX Jazz to a Fender Jazz, only both warwicks would blow both those Jazz's away easily!

Yes. This is right. Even if you get a NT and a BO built with the same woods, you might get a very similar tone, but the dynamics of the instrument will be different.

Bolt-on has 24 frets, making the body seem longer, the Neckthrough, 26 frets, appearing shorter. That's the difference you see AmpegBass.
