The Return of the Wenge

Honest answer. We all know that oil finish is cheapest but I always like to hear the honest answer.

I hate when hearing some non fair stories :)
 
Ok, I guess that is logical. I have never seen a (non-CS) Warwick with anything else than an oil finish (natural, not coloured oil).

Really? Wow... I would say that there are fewer high polish Warwicks about (there are a few though) but I do see plenty of both natural oil and coloured oil finishes.

Even though natural oil is the cheapest finish, it is my favourite. I love waxing. I was a little sad that Pro series aren't available in natural oil finish. Still the coloured oil Honey Violin is nice ;)

You re not alone on this one , but as I wrote before , but maple with bubinga neck stringers like they were in 95 like the one I bought then . That would be cool .

You misunderstood me; I said nothing about high polish - I am talking about not ever having seen a natural satin finish Warwick

Oh, sorry ;) I see. I see plenty of natural oil, but you're right, natural satin is not common.

A little late to this, but I'm partly really excited to hear about this and also really not! I'm one of the few who genuinely prefers the ovangkol necks. I've had a couple of wenge necked Warwick's, a Streamer Pro M and Flamin Blonde Thumb LTD. I really didn't enjoy the Pro M much, but mostly due to the ultra thin profile. The Flamin Blonde, on the other hand, was amazing. Had the thicker profile, which I prefer, and the wenge did really feel super nice. However, I would still take Ovangkol over the Wenge...but for all the other Wenge lovers out there, I'm super excited for you! And trust me, a Wenge neck absolutely wouldn't stop me from buying a new Warwick down the road. While I prefer Ovangkol over Wenge, I still prefer Wenge over...just about every other wood out there! It'll still sound and feel 100% Warwick, and that's all that matters.
 
This is true... However, the color oil finish is a satin finish too, and the honey violin is almost natural, and it is gorgeous!
 
I'm on the fence about the natural oil thing. I think it's a bit funny (and some manufacturers would say unsafe) to see on a bass with a maple neck/body, but I think a gloss finish looks funny on basses with bubinga/ovangkol bodies. I can't argue with how awesome the natural finish feels.

I do wish my Katana was high polish black (that would look KILLER), but at the same time I wouldn't wish away that waxed feel (I wax the neck too).

EDIT: Would I be out of line asking exactly how significant the price increase is? Looking at the current price chart for FSC wenge and ash... the FSC Corvette is more expensive than some NT models.

Me too.

Almost all of us on Forum do not like the feel of waxed neck.
But this time thefitz and myself are excluded. Like thefitz, I do like the feel of waxed neck. Can't explain, I extremely do not like touching sticky things but I like moderately waxed neck.. Guess subconsciously made myself to like it because that way Warwick neck wood is protected :) Offtopic but doesn't matter :)

I am not allowed to give this information out, but yes, the prices will go up again in January. It is not our fault, this is the price needed if we want to build instruments like that... Also NT vs BO should not be seen as a difference in quality IMHO, they are the same class, they just sound different.
 
Mr Praline - We do offer natural satin finish...and its done quite often on Framus guitars. We even offer high-gloss top with a natural satin back and sides. Thanks!
 
I know it is offered, but I have rarely if ever encountered one in real life - and there are quite a lot of Warwicks in Sweden. :)
 
True tech , I never tried an Ovankol neck myself , so I can t talk about what I don t know , but I have bought my 2 Warwicks new in 96 & NT basses were mostly Wenge then , so this was a great news when I saw this , but I don t say that Ovankol s not good .

But we all have our opinions on the end .
