Andy Irvine posted yesterday on his Faceboob profile that Warwick will offer again wengè (FCS wenge) as their standard neck wood from 2013.

Yes, indeed! If you remember a few months back when I asked for forum members input on this...and the overwhelming choice was to bring the Wenge back! So, thanks to all of you who contributed...it was about 88% for Wenge in the poll.
 
So, is it only for BO basses or are the NT ones concerned too?

Does this mean in 10 years, Ovangkol will be highly sort after?

Isn't Wenge heavier than Ovangkol and not as forgiving in constant changing climates? Thought that was why they swapped.

I know it will take me years to save up for it... but I might just have to buy a shiny new Thumb NT fretless 5 string if it has the bubinga pomelle and wenge neck....

Ovankgol was swapped with Wenge due to a civil war in the country it was sourced from. Between the war, and the demand from the furniture industry, it became scarce and very expensive. From now on, we will be using all FSC-sourced Wenge!

It was the price and scarcity of the wood that was why it was switched. The 'lighter and better for stability' thing was an after-the-fact justification as to why ovangkol 'is better'.

I think the 'stability' issue has more to do with the removable alloy truss rods than the wood itself.
 
Wenge in 2013 for all German made Warwicks? Hmmmm.... So the older basses with wenge necks will be a little less desirable possibly? Maybe my 2000 Thumb BO with Ovankol will become a hot commodity then.

This is great news, with the Pre-98 neck profile and now this, it seems Warwick has returned to the winning combination (well for me anyway).
 
Great news! Wenge is beautiful, and classic Warwick! I love Ovangkol too, and of course this will continue to be available as a CS option for the Ovangkol lovers.

And the Wenge is FSC certified too!

Ovangkol is nice and all, it does the job, but Wenge is like the mother of all woods. This got me more excited than almost any other Warwick news this year. Makes my dream custom shop that much cheaper!!!

This is fantastic news! Can't wait to see the new Warwick German-made product pics...showing Wenge necks as the standard offering!
