We'd like your feedback on Neck Wood! SS1 Wenge vs Maple

What neck wood would you like to see on a Streamer Stage 1 - 4, 5, or 6 string

Also, I agree with Morgoth, this should be asked of the Thumb bass as well!

Wenge with maple layers. Or why not maple with wenge layers ?

+1... there is a little something like that with wenge neck that enhance the sound IMO, and they have a kind of more focussed mids at some point in the sound, so I voted wenge.

I am selling my corvette right now and I'll try to find an old streamer SSI or an LX, with wenge neck, after for these reasons.
I want to compliment my '88 SSII with wenge neck (which is perfect soundwise and ergonomically for me, and looks great !!) and play that bass the other in my other band. I want to try the PJ config. and something that is not so far from my SSII...

I'll add I prefer the wenge necks, over the ovangol (more "boomy" IMO) or maple... plus wenge looks great !!! lol
 
I agree with Flo about wanting a really different sound from our basses. The SSI does provide a more 'standard' tone, with less of the growlees we all love. I recon if wick players want a more standard tone they now have options like the Streamer $$, the vette standards or the star basses, all have the more classic maple necked tone. These options werent there when the all maple streamer came out, but now.....bring da wengeh!

I think wenge necked Streamer basses without the hidden front look terrible. I don't think maple and wenge is a pretty mix.
 
really? i much prefer the look of the wenge necked SSI to the all maple one. The contrast is great. Goes to show how varied preferences can be.
 
Wenge is synonomous with Warwick & the stage 1 is the original premier Warwick model.

No doubt! I love the non hidden wenge neck. Especially when the grain is going in different directions. It's like racing stripes on a Muscle car.

Yeah, I just like the uniform look, especially when there's a coloured oil finish applied. Evidently I'm in the minority here, heh! I find a wenge/maple combo too visually disruptive.

I'm going to just... say it here... and start a war...

Since we've sourced FSC wenge and are asking questions like this...

can't we just...

get rid of the ovangkol on German basses...

have Wenge as standard for ALL German Warwicks...

...and...

leave Ovangkol for Pro Series stuff?

EDIT: All that said, I like my Ovangkol/ovangkol Thumb BO, especially with the black hardware and black fretless board. Very uniform!!
 
SS1 is a successful model starting with his predecesor made from cherry, so I say go both worlds and take the best. Since W people feel the need to change something on that model, I would order at CS:

4 pieces neck with maple stripe between wenge: maple/wenge/wenge/maple
5 pieces neck maple stripes between wenge ones: maple/wenge/wenge/wenge/maple

7 pieces I think is too expensive in the making process, we are talking about series production here.

Wenge would add more mid-growl to the sound I think, but overall maple is keeping the beefy character. No ekanga at all I think is better :)

IMHO.

LE: Maybe it should be a third option for this poll :) And you can leave the headstock unhidden in this way also...would be the most visible modification.
