The Heads Up Thread

Wow! Cool! Have not seen this yet. Thanks for posting @Hardy

It's the 2nd version (1st revision) of the JD. Still has the mini horn...bridge moved down a bit. The serial would be approximately between #130 - #255, for anyone interested.

*Tidbits to note:

I forgot if there are other fretless Wicks of the time that have lines on the board. Anyone?

Tuners are straight...which makes me want to see the back of the headstock. Gotta check that neck as well, ofc.

Someone had a thumb-rest installed.

Paint looks original (Cass Lewis '86 JD comes to mind)...though the painted control cavity is... interesting. Or is it?

OG orange case, worth the asking price alone :p

I‘m just guessing but it could be defretted. The resolution of the pics is not good enough but aren‘t there dents in the edge of the fretboard where the lines are?

Ohh good eye. Yeah. Though the ebony (macassar?) wouldn't have been normal for a fretted out of the factory at that time. Hmm. Yeah, resolution is bad...but it doesn't look like wenge.

*Warning: Unnecessary speculation and total Nerd Alert time coming...

I wonder if there was a neck crack and some modding/repairs were done. They straightened the tuners (though possibly original), replaced the board...then defretted? Or is it just sanded/super-glue treated wenge. Then painted it pink...or repainted? That painted cavity...looks a bit thick. Usually that would have been classic matte black, right? I dunno. It's got the glossy headstock, which would be normal for a factory paint job....but...are those thumb-rest holes painted? Wait now. Hmm. Speculation overload. Other option... it's all original. Haha. 🤯 ok, good morning, I need coffee.

@Hardy does your white JD have a black or white cavity?

I might be wrong, but the lacquered models were “painted” externally back then (by Andy Schack)..
