The Heads Up Thread

6k for a BO thumb? That's close to 12k Australian ! Jezuz.....

Does anything ever sell from this place or only to the uninformed?

Apologies if this has already been discussed in here or if I'm not allowed to post to basschat but I really want this bass but unfortunately I think the guy is maybe a little steep on a SN Dolphin.....Thoughts?

Since I am apparently world renowned for my Dolphin love, the guy contacted me to sell his bass. 3600€ is way too much, I told him. But it's a CS bass made for him. It probably costed bretween 5 and 6000€, so for him the price is "fair".
I think you're pretty harsh with the 1500€ price here. It's already cheap for a 89 NT, and this bass has some very cool features : I personnaly love the Burl top (would have it dyed in Blue, but hey... ), and the matching headstock, and the Dolphin inlays are an option for the SN, don't forget.
IMO it's more a 2/2.3k€ bass. 2.3k would be the max I'd pay for this bass if it was blue. (given that i don't have a SN. Yet. )

Thanks for the advice.

I still think I would pay no-where near 2000 euros for it. I understand it was made for him but unfortunately that doesn't really matter in the second-hand Warwick market. That's almost the amount I paid on both of my Buckeye Burl Warwick Streamer Stage 1 and my Buckeye Burl Warwick Infinity with LED's and they are both NT.

I'll keep my eye out for something else. I'm in the market for a 4 string and the buckeye of this one caught my eye. I think I might go for a Thumb.

I think you got some really real good deal on your Infinity. :-)
A Dolphin NT is IMO int the 1500/2000 range, depending on the features, state, Hard Shell Case included or not... This SN is really made for a Dolphin Lover.

Actually, thinking about it I think I paid around 3000 euros for the Infinity. It may have been more but it worked out around £2500 at the time. :)

The thing I don't get is why everyone seems to look down on set necks as some kind of inferior model?
Take the dolphin- same wood as a stage II streamer, same pickup config as a later MEC equipped dolphin, what's not to like??
Narrow spacing for all the non Broadneck fans. Lighter than an equivalent solid body due to the tone chamber system.
Also not in production so some rarity too.

Of course I say all this because I haz one :D

Anyhoo here's one for sale in the states $1850 or best offer

I think that tonewise, they are super beasts. But still the SNs are more... how can I put it... Serialized. Same neck, exact same electronics, same P'up positionning for all SN models.
I mean, a "serialized" good bass is still a good bass. They're just made with a "production rationale" twist. Like a Porsche against an Aston Martin. You just pay more for the flair, not for the performances.

Yeah but every non custom shop model is built with that same " production rationale" and every model is serialised within its own type, so no difference there with a set neck. If anything they are less serialised, a SN Infinity has, at a guess, had less production numbers than its non set neck version. Same with the Dolphin. Probably the Vampyre as well.

I had a SN infinity and it sounded solid and quality. I would have no issues with it being a SN. Some awesome sounding vids he has up as well if anyone hasent seen em yet.

Dazed hit it on the head, in my opinion. To use your word, they are no more "serialized" than anything else.

They do occasionally have deals. I got my '04 for $1500 from them. They also have a few that are waaay overpriced...for sure.

Some of their better deals now are a DP1 for like 2.7k, that brand new Streamer LX CS made for the Bruno Mars guy for 2.5k and an FNA Jazzman for $850.

So yeah...hit and miss. Also depends on what store is doing the selling.... As they're nationwide here.

Someone got delusions of grandeur with that Thumb BO though. Especially when you can buy a brand new SS1 from them for 4k.

What happened to it?

one of the previous owners turned the bridge for some reason and chiseled a piece of wood from the boy to fit the strings.

There was a long bash on bassic a year ago. So the potentieller seller withdrew. It seems that the recent owner was not aware
of that and bought it anyway.

If you are interested ask for detailed pics of the body ? :-)
