street value of an old thumb

I was wondering, I found this little beauty for sale (but I haven't bought it... yet :) )

and I was wondering from you warwick experts which could be a good price for this instrument.

Italy is one of the cheapest for used Warwicks.
This is a Thumb from the 80's,maybe 86 or there abouts.
A fair price might be around 800 to 900 euros.

It looks alot like a strap pin has been installed on the lower horn.

man I was thinking more like 1200 Euros at least, since it's a very vintage model, with dots and all.
 
While those vintage babies are so so sweet,it really doesnt ad much in the way of value,unfortunatly.Also it's in Italy.The bargain basement bin for Warwick.

didn't know about Italy having a lesser resale value than somewhere else. :confused:
 
I think the real value of this bass is at least 1700 EUR. I used to own one, and I know why.. Being a vintage, 100% handmade AND a 5 stringer it makes it pretty valuable.

Now because of the recession, maybe 1500, maybe 1300
1200 is a steal.
These are the true prices...

I could earn a living reselling vintage 'Wicks to forum fans.
The seller requests 1700€ which, in my opinion is too much.
I'll try to lower the price, considering what I've read here 1200-1300 € could be a fair price.
What do you think, forum friends ?

So I gave you the correct number :-)

Believe me it is not too much. let's say 1300 is the minimum possible ever for this bass if it is in good shape. 400 EUR is not that much for the risk of loosing such a rare piece, and great instrument.
 
It's an eighties 5-stringer, usually 1300-1400 euro here in Italy.
The additional hole on the lower horn lowers the price somehow, maybe 100-150 euro less.

If he's trying to sell for 1700 euro, he's waiting for Godot...
 
Sellers in shops usually have a request price quite high.
Anyway he has no chances to see me paying that amount.
I had noticed the lower horn strap pin...
I presume in a moment of its life the bass had a left handed owner.
I should remove it and have it professionally filled.
Does anybody have a bubinga shard for chance ? :)
I'll try go get a price around 1300, hoping for 1200 :)

Might wanna just leave the lower horn
strap pin in place. Rather than a lefty
player, it might have been part of one
of various anti-neck-dive extra-strap
schemes ... which makes it a real part
of a Thumb's heritage !

What? 650€ for a NT5? Wtf? Where can I get that? I'd say a good NT5 would sell between 1200 and 1500€...

last month a thumb nt6 went out for bout 800euro and a ss2 4 for 700euros:)
mostly vintage stuff

Ialma, remember that Switzerland is an extra UE country, so you'll have to pay taxes and duties.
 
Not sure why people sound stunned and question the validity,when they hear prices of less than 1000 for Warwick NT basses; even vintage ones! :confused:

I've personally known PLENTY early Warwick basses go for less than £1000/1000Euro. It was only 6mths ago on this very forum that I had a genuine 100% original, JD Thumb bass in immaculate condition and I had no interest in the bass whatsoever @ 1100 euro... I ended up selling it in the UK for £950. To be honest the £950 that I took for it seemed good seeing as how I'd watched x2 vintage Thumb NT basses sell for less than £700 and a 89 NT Thumb 5 sell for LESS THAN £700!

By the reactions on this thread to the value of a NT 5 string early Thumb being worth in excess of 1300 euro I would assume that the same people would happily state that a rare and Limited Edition Vintage (1990) Warwick Streamer with many unique features must be worth at least the same as the Thumb mentioned... or surely more as I'm talking about a bass that you will likely only ever see one or two on this forum EVER! Then how come I have a bass that has sat for 6 months in the for sale section with a similar price tag? :lol:

Sorry people but a bass is only worth what someone WITH THE MONEY is prepared to pay; idle speculation by well intentioned friends is however good fun. ;)
