Streamer STD with different pickups (SD vs. MEC).

There was a thread where I had shown my DIY work - two Basslines SCPB-3's assembled in a single humbucker regaussed to a split configuration. I'm currently busy building a composite housing for those pickups, so recently I made two small recordings showing both DIY and original pickups in action.
Some processing has been involved (EQ and compression), but the difference is so big, that processing didn't hide it at all.

MEC are very good pickups. The thing is that many people want to change them just because they are stock. Well they are a part of the Warwick sound.

The MEC definitely sounds fuller and more acoustic-like. It also makes my timing better What I like about SD's is it's more focused character that helps me stand better in a real mix. That's not just SD vs. MEC comparision - it's more like single coil vs. humbucker. And what upsets me the most is that there is no MEC single coil that would fit my bass.

I could see the SD fitting (marginally) better in a band context. Still, I like the stock sound on its own.

I should really do something similar between the MECs and the Wizards on my corvette. however, the difference is very noticeable. Two different focus on the pickups, not necessarily 'better'. The MEC do seem to emphasise the low mids on the corvette, the wizard are more 'airy'.
