That depends if that lovely fat neck treats my medium sized hands well

Actually, I too have medium sized hands and they get along well with Warwick 5-string necks. Of course, they LOVE the 4's as well...

Fat necks: I tried a Yamaha 6 string bass with some serious soapbars today. I don't like the feel of yamaha basses, but I had no issues with the size of the neck. I think a Warwick 5-string BN would be no problem at all.
Any reviews/pictures of SSIs?

Another "update"
I asked for a Broadneck 5 string bass at the music shop today. He gave me a Sadowsky. Fantastic bass, and I loved the neck and the string spacing.
