Streamer - New vs. Old?

I love the feel of an old, worn in bass - but for what it's worth, I prefer to buy them new and wear them in myself. I love developing a "relationship" with that bass and discovering it's character over time. I'd kinda feel dirty with an old second hand bass - almost like sleeping with someone else's wife!
