Hi all, I have 2 Streamer LX 5's, one from 1997 and one from 2000. Is there any difference in the electronics? On the 97, when you boost the bass control it seems to make the B string louder and have a lesser effect on the other strings, but the 2000 is more 'as you'd expect', pretty much makes boosting the bass a no go area on the 97.

The circuits look different,
97 soldered to back of bass control, 2 boards one on top of the other
2000, stuck inside the cavity, one single board.

The bass and treble are the opposite way around on both.

Any ideas? Can I get a 2000 PCB as a spare part and upgrade? Or do I just have a weird bass?

You can upgrade to new electronics, sure. And you can also buy the whole sets, with pots, which could be a good idea for a 16 years old bass :-)
 
Thanks, I'll drop them an email. I'll post what he says, might be useful in other threads like the old vs. new, alot is said about the woods and the process, but not alot about the electrics.
 
UPDATE> I've sent some photos of the PCB's to MEC, waiting to hear back
 
MEC gave me part numbers for the circuits, and have suggested that I have a string/ bridge problem. It's been like it for alot of years, and I only use it at home because of the problem. The strings have been changed fairly regularly so assume they aren't the problem. Gonna put some passive pickups in it to see if I can eliminate both string and bridge problems.
 
Regarding the electronics. Do you all find the 2-band with lack if mid frequency an issue?
 
it depends on what sound are you looking for... It is not only a missing pot, the frequencies are also different, and it is only about personal taste. I like the 3 band one, but many of us like the 2 way better, because of the growlier trebe pot (2.5 k)
