Slapping the Corvette $$?

I want to buy a Corvette $$ and I'm wondering if this baby has a nice slap tone. How does it sound compared to a Thumb or a Corvette Std.? Especially if I bought a 5 string; is there enough space between the strings to slap it properly? Or can I adjust the space? (I hope my English isn't too bad! :P )

Hi, I have a couple of vettes and they are so different! The Hot Rod 4 is extremely great for slapping, when I took it to the band rehearsal for the first time the guys just stood with open mouths. The FNA LTD 5 has loads of sound possabilities but I find the 5 harder to slap because the narrow string spacing. Soundwise the difference is very much about the woods and the pickups but most of the Warwick pickup configs have great tone for slapping as well so you would be happy with a double buck. The great thing with the Thumbs are the woods and the pickup placing and that you can get a broadneck for the 5.
If money is not the problem - why not buy both? A Thumb 4 and a Double Buck 5 (or vice versa) :lol:
Anyhow, try to get a chance to try them out before buying.
 
Haha... I wish I had the money to buy both! But I'm a poor student living from the money of my parents and summer jobs! :lol:
Well... is there anybody who owns a Corvette $$? I'd like to know some pros and cons of the bass, its special features, if you're satisfied... just everything you can tell me about it! :)
 
I've not played a $$ but I can tell just by looking at it that the neck pickup would get in my way if I tried to slap on it. Some people can slap with a pickup in the way, but not me. I find that the distance between the end of the neck and the J pickup on my FNA Jazzman is about as close as I could slap on comfortably.

At this time I play on a $$. About the slap: the space between the strings is quite small, so I am not confortable with this bass in case of slap.

It could work for you - and for everyone else -, but as I have long fingers it doesn't work for me. I will change my instrument to a broadneck Warwick.
 
If you can wait until I get my Customshop $$ 4 string then I will give you a complete review of both Slapping and tapping and snapping and rapping on the Corvette Double Buck bass.... :lol: :lol:
 
Marcus, will you bring the new Double Buck when going to the Gothenburg Guitar Show?, Would be nice to have a closer look

Well, I'd like a bass with a nice growling sound, suitable to slap, with coloured oil finish possibilities, and maybe 5 strings (not essential). But it shouldn't cost more than 2000.- SFr (1300 Euro; 1540 USD). :roll:
Can you please give me some suggestions?
 
My suggestion if you want a 5-stringed, easy to slap bass is to get a broadneck. If you want a colored one you might want to look at the Streamer LX Broadneck. However I would go for a used one with the budget of yours, it is easier that way to find a great instrument that fits your need and the most used Warwick basses are in good condition.

I got my Corvette $$ 5 string last tuesday! after a few hours of adjust i can say that slapping is not easy because you have not so much space for your fingers and you have no chance to get more! so you must training your slapping technic! I needed about 3 hours to get well with the string space and now the slapping style is nearly good as the on my other basses!

If the string space of a 5 string bass is such a problem, I will simply buy a 4 string bass! :)
But Jacob Hamilton said that it looks like the neck pickup could also cause a problem because it gets in ones way. I'd like to know if this really is a problem for you.

i have had no problem with slapping on my double $$, i dont know about the other guys but i dont find the string spacing small at all, infact its probably the same or wider than what i have had previously (streamer lx , schecter custom and a marcus miller fender jazz)

I think you misunderstood. No one's complaining about the string spacing. The concern was about the space between the neck and the neck pickup where your fingers would grab the G string.

Thanks for your numberous responses! I've been skiing for a week and I've just come back home. I asked my father if he would spend some money on a new bass for my 18 birthday next month (13th April). Well, he agreed and so I'll have a much bigger budget to buy a Warwick! Now I'm torn between going on with a Corvette $$ or a Thumb NT. :D
Please, could you now give me some pros and cons in comparing these two beauties?

My concern - from my previous post from this topic* - was exactly the string spacing. I know that there are a lot of Warwick players who are satisfied with it, but it seems that I'll need a broadneck for a wide string spacing. I think that it would be worthy the broadneck version to be an option for each Warwick model.
