Question on profet 3.2 and 411 pro

hey every one,

im kind of new to the whole head+cab thing (i only have a blue cab 20 and a vox T25) and am wanting to purchase a profet 3.2 with a 411 pro (8ohm), the thing is im wondering seems the profet 3.2 is only 300 watts and the 411 pro is 600 watt, how much power do i get?????

another question what are ohm's and what is a HF horn with attenuator?
 
as your using the 300watt profet with a single 8 ohm cab id say the head would be putting out just 200 watts.

i presume your buying this setup so you can add a wca115 cab at some point. florin might put me right on this but i wouldnt reconmed using a 300 watt head with 1000 watts worth of cabs. if the cabs are designed to be working with a head around 1000 watts then a 300 watt head could lead to the drivers overheating (the drivers use the movement of air to cool themselves so with a head rated three times lower this wonk be working effectivly)

with a profet 3.1 i'd personally suggest using a single 4 ohm WCA410 (300 wats) or a single 4 ohm WCA 211 (400 watts). if you got a single 4 ohm cab the head will be puting out its full power



ohms is what resistance is measured in. in this case it tells you the ammount of resistance the cabs put on the signal from the amp



the horn is a small metal speaker that effectivly amplifies very high frequencies. its usually silver and squareish

the attenuator is basicall a volume control for the horn. this is usually n the back of cabs with a horn

Alex is right, 410 pro seems to be the perfect match.

About the ohms, you don't need to know physics, but to follow some simple rules.

If you use 4 ohms amp, then the perfect match is 4 ohms cab
if you use 2 ohms cab you will burn the amp
If you use 8 ohms cab, you will lose about 30% of the amp's power
2 X 8 ohms cabs = 4 ohms :-)

About the power, simple rules too:
The perfect match is the best option.
for 500 W Amp the perfect match is 500 W cab
.......600W cab is perfect too
......700- 800 ... is ok
......1000 W cab... well that's not bad, but you'll need to keep the amp loud to make speakers move, but not too loud...
The danger here is that a underpowered amp at maximum will give distorted square waves, that will burn your speakers :-)
That is a paradox, yes, but it is better to use 1000 W amp with 500 W cab and be careful with the output level :-)

Do not use amp/ speaker combination with big wattage difference, like 200 W amp in 1000 W cabs, or vice versa.

Does this go for all tube amps that only ruyn about 300 watts of all tube power?
 
This is a good question Doc :-)
300 W all tube head sounds much powerful than 300 W solid state or hybrid amp. In fact sounds more powerful than 500 W ss amps :-)
I'd use 300 W all tube amp with 1000 W cabinets if you ask me...

make sure you get the 4 ohm version though if your planning on having just the one cab
 
i recently read in a forum that if you use a 4 ohm cab on an 8 ohm speaker-out, that will ruin both components. couldn't believe it though, because i'm running a 4 ohm box through the speakon out of my warwick pro fet 3.2 and there haven't been any probelms yet...

The Profet 3.2, has 4 ohms output, that is the reason you don't have problems :-)

that is exactly what i then told the publisher ;-) but your answer makes me feel more comfortable though :D

So, if I will use Profet 5.1 head with WCA 115 Pro cab, it will be ok for both devices ( just until my WCA 211 Pro arrives :wink: )?
 
i decide on a profet 5.1 and a 411 pro (4 ohms). thing is when i went into the shop they already sold the 411 so i could only get the profet 5.1. so now i am suck with a head that i cant use for like a month before they get another 411 in. all i can do is look at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can i just use my ipod headphone or do i need more powerful ones?
 
You can use them , but set the volume not to have distortion.
