Public Apology

hmmm....that post was completely wrong. I some how managed to quote myself saying something original.

anyways, think everyone gets the point. :)

Sometimes life is not that easy. One can get in trouble for a lot of reasons... games, drugs, relationships... to name a few. Sometimes things are going slowly out of control.
And sometimes, the pressure of the ones close to you (us in this case), can help a guy get back to his tracks.
Anyway, I always forgive a man when he apologize, no matter how he does it.
He is a guy that did a stupid thing... I say let's give the man another chance. I did stupid things too in my life...
How do you expect him to be ok from now on, when we already treat him like a criminal?
I agree that he didn't had to come here to apologize! He did that because he wanted it. And he needs us to be his friends, he said that with his words.
Now, I am not the man to turn the back to someone when he asks me something like that.

I can`t believe that people actually consider handing this guy some more money for shipping.

No one is.

I'm paying the shipping cost and anyone that wants to contribute can - I'll post up my Paypal address when I know how much the shipping has cost. Jake will not be getting any money.

Regarding various other comments - yes, we could ask Jake to give me something else to cover the cost of shipping but that could then jeopardise me collecting the bass...and Ruele would then have to wait for the police and legal processes to do their thing. As they say...a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!

Have you made contact about the collection yet.

I will contribute to the shipping. Jake doesn't deserve it but neither does Reuel and if we can all put in a nominal amount that we can afford it will be no pain to anyone.

It also give's Jake the chance to prove that he really is sorry by paying us back when he can afford it.

I've sent 2 texts, phoned his mobile 3 times and his home phone just now. No answer...I'll keep trying his home phone.

I hope for his sake he opens communication - this is serious business. I know from previous experience on other forums that the Police take this sort of thing very, very seriously.

I just read all of this. Wow. Hopefully everything gets sorted out. I think jake should send reul some of his excess gear too...

Good that you did a public excuse.

BUT, kinda weird that you start to feel all bad and everything
just when you know the police started to look for you. Kinda
not what I would call "real" honesty. ........
`
Pretty much my feelings as well. But I will say, that as the
situation approaches closure, it at least looks to be that
Jake actually owns the bass he offered for sale, and did
not seem to be a bait-and-rip-off scammer who posts ads
for items he can't possibly deliver and does not possess.

It looks more like he's not the outright thief or malicious
type as much as he's just irresponsible, inconsiderate etc
but with no malice or thievery intended. I think that is an
important distinction. I admit my knowledge of Jake is all
totally indirect, but it does appear to be a severe case of
carelessness and callousness, but involving no criminal
intent nor reputation for crime. IOW, plenty of room for
improvement, but no reason for a public hanging.

So, uhhmmnn, Jake ...... You're reimbursing G-man for
shipping the bass 1/2way round the globe, right ? Cool.

Sorry I have to disagree with you on that one!

I've been in communication with Reule a fair bit on this episode and I've also been involved with proceedings across at Basschat and for an individual to open new accounts to post on a thread that is about them in order to deflect the situation OR to go through systematically deleting old thread content in order that his location can be less easily established is pretty much indicative of malice and BLATANT thievery!

Do not kid yourself, without the fantastic efforts of ALL concerned on the various forums (and off-forum) Jake would be sitting cuddling this bass and wondering how best to continue avoiding Reule getting the bass or money back. I'm certain Jake is feeling sorry for himself but from his actions I can assure you Jake was fully cognoscente of his actions even though he may not have embarked on this deal with the sole intention of scamming Reule.

This is drawing to a happy conclusion for Reule but it would appear that Jake will still walk away from this deal almost £150 better off than he could have imagined. The good nature and generosity of other people will be paying for the shipping NOT Jake and if he has managed to blow $3000 and have no collateral to show for it then I'm not going to dangle by my testes waiting for Jake to pay it back!

This is not meant to be a vitriolic attack on you Golem nor a call to lynch/stone Jake but PLEASE don't look at this through 'rose-tinted glasses', Jake was quite prepared to make himself a common thief/criminal... period!

Now that the bass is off Jake's hands I still think Jake should repay us for the shipping of the bass (since he charged that on his transaction) AND also give IncX some type or restitution for the hassle, waiting, and his intentions for these MANY MONTHS!

I would even consider going ahead with the legal proceedings so according to the law the means or restitution can be established.

I agree mate. I have to say it that I've been publicly polite towards Jake in the hope that we'd get Reule's bass out of Jake's hands. My phone conversation with Jake did not give me any indication that he was particularly sorry or embarrassed about the situation.

I'd go as far as to say that Jake comes across as irresponsible, self interested and not ready for the grown up world. He seriously needs to think about this misadventure and 'do as you would be done by'.

The likelihood of getting the shipping money refunded by Jake I'd say is NIL. Obviously I'd love to be proved wrong...just don't see it happening with his current attitude.

I think we all learned a pretty good lesson from this whole fiasco....I'm glad to see everything is working out for the best. It seems like most people who have been in your position, Reuel, would not have had such a happy ending to their story.

I still believe in his apologies, and I respect him until he proves me I am wrong.
You know why?

Because this way, if he fucks up, it will be his choice, his mistake, I will not have to take the blame that maybe I pushed him with my negative attitude...

He still needs to pay the money back, so we will see...

Your faith in the goodness of Jake is admiral, Flo, but i reckon i'll be seeing pigs fly past the window before anyone gets any shipping donations back.

But hey, i've been wrong plenty of times before.

Before we get a possie together guys, let's remember that Jake has the arse out of his pants. For whatever reason,he doesnt have the shipping money, that's why we're paying it,out of the goodness of our hearts.
I dont ever expect to get my donation back,I'm donating coz I consider Reuel my mate & want to help him out.
Re.Jake's apology? That's up to you guys to accept it,or not.
I really hope we can put this behind us in time. It's really bought out the very best in all of us & I'm really proud to be a part of all this little family.

I'm thrilled that the bass is now in safe hands, beginning it's journey to Reuel!

Well done to Jake for eventually parting with the bass.

Now Jake - here is the time that you have an opportunity to earn some forgiveness!

You have done the right thing when backed into a corner, but now that it's over, it's up to you to show us your true character by working to earn the shipping money, and paying it back.

I certainly don't want my donation back - but Jake - you should certainly be paying for the shipping.

Once you come up with the dough, you can pass the money on to Gman, who can then either forward it to Reuel as a small payment for all of the trauma you've put him through, or to a charity.

I'm looking forward to seeing your true character Jake, and I hope it's a good outcome.

I choose to believe that you'll do the right thing.

:)
