Power my pre

They will both draw the same amount of power, 1/2 the output wattage, when in bridged mode. It doesn't matter which one is first in the chain. The only problem might be volume differences in the cabs since you can't adjust each volume independently like in stereo mode.

Ok, so the Berg will be louder, drawing 5 of the 600w out of the 1200 or so available. I dont really mind the volume difference since they both sound good. I do like the option to tweak the bass freq and volume on the Eden in stereo. So when I get my 500w mono, for now, I'll have to use just the 500w- 8ohm Berg or the 500w- 4ohm Ampeg Hlf or just 1- 300w, 8ohm Aguilar. Anything else will be too much draw for the amp? Really don't want to mess up the HB gear.

Both speaker cabs will "see" 600w regardless of their speaker wattage. Use of the volume knob and input levels will vary your actual wattage output. You can't really say which will be louder based on their wattage handling, but the Berg does have a higher sensitivity, so it should be louder.

I was just thinking that if one cab is louder than the other then there may not be a point to running them both mono if you can't hear one of them.

Once you get the Hellborg amp I would rock a pair of those Aguilars or just the Berg all the time.

There's no reason you can't run both Aguilar's with 500w. The amp will only put out what it can. You can't "draw" too many watts from it. The only thing that will kill it is running too low an impedance, such as two 4 ohm cabs in mono on an amp that can't run 2 ohms mono.

More speakers is the easiest way to increase perceived volume rather than more watts. From my experience with it, the HLF will be the loudest, but there's probably not a lot of situations where you would need more than any combination of the Aguilar's and Berg would put out.

I am by no means an expert, but I've had a lot of cabs and amps over the years, and this is all from my experience.

I would like to use the 2 Aguilars together. They are easy to transport and have a good bass response. I will surely be boosting bass frequencies and volume, as I need to be felt more than heard right now and it must be clean. I keep thinking if I push the amp by boosting bass and volume, I may damage the speakers if the amp clips. I read that the HB system can be pushed without clipping but I'm not sure. With the HB speakers I'm guessing it would be safe to push it. I know I have a habbit of expecting too much from my gear at times or was given backline at gigs that I couldn't dial in properly due to being unfamiliar with the brand. Sound men usually just dial in what the audience hears and leaves my on-stage sound to me. This is one reason I decided to get the Hellborg. I find it easy to use and it sounds great. I plan on taking the rack with me to all gigs, even if the venue provides the amp and speakers. This way, I only have to learn to dial in one system under different circumstances.
Btw, I've had more combos than amps and speakers but there are not many combos that cut it outside. Before the Aggies and Berg, all I ever had was the Ampeg Hlf. The only heads I've had was an Ampeg Svt3, Ampeg V4 and a Thunderfunk, which I can't count because it was defective. So please share your experiences. I don't mind learning from you guys here.

Just for fun, this is how I spend last summer. Did several stages like this one. I'm learning a lot gigging in different situations. I never know what gear will be at a gig. This one was a GK full stack and I found it a little hard to dial in, since I never used one. I noticed after the gig that it had a button for 5 string:confused:. My monitor stopped working after the 3 minute "sound check" and I coiuldn't really hear myself when I moved from in front of the stack. GK makes good stuff, I just didn't have time to figure it out. That's why I want my own gear. I spent the whole time standing in between the GK and the drummer, so I could watch his hands and feet, lol.

This is me asking too much of my Mesa Walkabout combo. The place had a 25ft ceiling and 60ft deep. I can only bring the Hlf when I have access to an suv vehicle. Poor thing was spitting and farting all night! I knew better but didn't have anything else. I was no match for a loud drummer that I just met that night and was teaching the songs while playing and very loud percussionist. Audio is crap but I only posted this because the Warwick looks really good! Ha

Speaker Impedance

This calculator might save you some issues, and if you run 1000W amps at twice their intended power it might save your eardrums, speakers or even you walls! ;)

These little calculators are great. they also do the power distribution. Its all theoretical and there will be other factors here, but its a good guide/

Yes, thank you. Thats actually quite helpful! I started playing around with it already

Thanks for the clips Gerry, I love your music :-)
Lol, thanks Florin! I wish someone would have sent me clips from good gigs with better sound but most of my indoor gigs are jam sessions anyway with guys I just met and anything can happen. Now that I have my amp:d hopefully, I can post a vid soon that does the bass justice.

So, here it is finally! I am now 1 step closer to being done. I will say that I'm not worried about headroom or volume anymore. I'm happy to say, it met my expectations and then some. Imho, any part of the HB gear could enhance what I already have but it really works best together. Turns out, I was at least right about the power section making a difference. I think it is really under rated when compared to the preamp. Together, they expose the weaknesses in my current speakers. They all sound really different now and none of them can handle the masters (amp+pre) past 2 o'clock but sound good untill pushed. When I boost frequencies on the eq, especially the bass, I must back the volumes down to 12 o'clock. Palm muted thumb playing is  I never really used the eq much before but now I'm having fun experimenting. The low B is crystal clear now. My girl looked inside the vents and said "there's a bullfrog in there", lol. I doubt if I will need more power for what I do, but if I did, I would only use another HB power section. I would now like to hear the Eden matched with it's intended preamp as well. I'm an EDEN fan as well, but for now, I will really miss the Eden grit!
Thanks to all of you, I'm sure to be extra careful with my equiptment from now on and I will ask questions if not sure about something. I already had the manual down loaded when I got the pre and read it a few times tonight just to be sure.
Yes, I made sure the impedance was set before I turned it on:d
It's clear I need proper speakers, so, I'm hoping for some snow out here!

Congratulations! +1 on the HB amp being underrated. It was the last piece I picked up...started with the HB CLub Cab/Low Cab instead of Pre, only because I was borrowing someone's cabs. I kept putting off the amp purchase (using my RH750)...thinking it can't make THAT big of a difference!?? WRONG! Mono 500 gives a warm...silent, but deadly presence! :-)

Thanks, I'm really enjoying it! I was up until 3:30am playing. If the power section wasn't so expensive to mail, they probably would have sent it with the pre. I'm thinking, you did the right thing grabbing speakers while you could, unless you got them from somewhere a while back when more stores carried them, because so far, the only place I've seen them in the US is at Bass Central and Warwick custom shop, NYC. If anyone knows another spot, please let me know. I'm leaning towards the CC and Low cab together or High cab, Low cab together. I don't see myself doing much outside of R&b, reggae and pop music and I'll probably be getting one at a time.
I wonder how the low end is on the High cab alone. Could you gig it in a small to medium club by itself? I also saw Andy doing the demo but couldn't tell. Custom shop is only 45 min away but I'm sure someone here could answer that one.

if you keep the Pre/Power in that case,
I would suggest keeping a short XLR cable connecting to the DI all the time
It is really difficult to reach inside before/after gig without tool

I check the HB manual and they don't recommend the HI Cab/LO Cab combo unless you use 2-Mono 250's, because the HI Cab is 4 ohm and the LO Cab is 8 ohm. With only a Mono 500...they say your choices are Club Cab only, Club Cab/Low Cab (8 ohms each) or Big Cab by itself (4 ohms). I love the CC/LC combo...I've been trying to learn more about the sound of the Big Cab by itself...Schlobodan and Flo say the CC/LC and BC only are very similar though. IMO when you crank up the Mono 500 with the CC/LC...you get a full range sound, getting warmer and louder...not biasing any particular frequency. Hard to explain, but if you A/B it...you'll know! :-)

I've bought all my HB equipment through Randy @Pulse Music (pulseonline.com) in Indiana, except my 5RU sleeve. Great guy to deal with...all my HB stuff drop shipped direct from the US distributor to my door...CC/LC cabs from Hanser Music years ago, and HB Pre/Mono 500 from US Music more recently. I have to say both distributers shipped very fast.

I purchased the 5RU sleeve from the NYC Custom Shop...great experience too. Tyler shipped that thing within an hour of purchase. Great guy to deal with also! :-)

+1 on babebambi's comment about the access to the rear panel in the HB sleeves. I bought the 5RU so I could put a Furman PLC+ power conditioner, which has a 12v light switch/jack at the rear for an LED adjustable light...man, it's dark and tight even in that 5RU HB sleeve. :-)

Yeah, I think it will be a tight fit in any case, unless I get a 5 space. I have already moved it to my Skb 4ru. Only good thing, is the Monster power center is shorter than the pre and that gives me the 1 ru space in the rear to get in there. I have my Monster power pro 900 power center, (any opinions on that is welcome) HB pre and the power amp on the bottom. For now, I'll keep it set pre eq and send a clean signal to f.o.h. I just really don't want to make my rack profile any bigger.
Going to get new screws tomorrow too.

Ahh, that narrows it down then. I will try the CC/LC combination. I will reach out to the distributers you mentioned and see if they still carry the cabs. I didn't see any of them in a google search:confused:. I actually sold the Ampeg V4 tonight, so, I'm almost ready to order. I love the way the HB sleeve looks and the way the components are recessed to add protection. My only issue is the no cover thing. I did a lot of gigs where we sometimes had to go on and come off quickly for scheduling purposes and I often don't know what vehicle I'll be using to haul gear, so, I can't guarrantee I'll have the luxury of space. After the "mystery injury" recently to the toggle switch on my bass:evil:and that was at home, I'm really mindful that anything could happen, especially on the road as you guys know. I opened a thread over a bass toggle switch, imagine if a HB switch or knob got damaged! It's mint but used with no warranty.
