yeah the bassist dont always just follow the guitarist in metal, what about steve harris, all maiden guitar is pretty much root power chording the bass note :lol: , and about the dragonforce thing, they might just use exercise methods and turn them into riffs, but at the end of the day their song writing is top noch, even if they cant play their songs live :lol:

Actually, I saw Dragonforce live about 3 or 4 years ago... They performed pretty much flawlessly. Got to hand them that. Also got to hand it to their old bassist (Adrian Lambert I believe) that he had a killer live tone. He was using some kind of Ibanez six string bass, but can't remember for the life of me what amp he was using. Might have been Ampeg...

well, i guess theres a cultural reason for that. one form of (rather mean)
humor in FIlipino culture is 'pretending' to be serious about asking
someone to do something (say, a dance) and then while he does it, the
group laughs behind his back, then turn around again and pretend to
enjoy the dance while the rest are still making fun of the person. it is a
very mean form of humor and i myself dont engage in it... i however
have been a victim of such as a kid, so i kinda have this knee jerk

fun of something [or someone] it will not be disguised. It might not be
the most in-you-face obvious. Like you might hafta read twice or think
twice, but that is about subtley, not about deception.

Now I read that some guys say Bass shoud follow the Lead Guitar route, Some say it should follow the Kick Drum. Is it all relative from music to music. ...from rock n roll to jazz to jazz Rock to Rock to death metal to country music to fusion to reggae to Western classical to Eastern classical etc etc etc... I don t think, Bass should follow a perticular route as some guys say.
In Indian classical music, if you play Bass you can not follow a particular route. You have to groove or hold simply the Raga's(scale) dominant notes.
This are all relative from music to music..right??
And as u said earlier it may be objectice?

SHADKALA GOVINDAMARAR, FASTEST Singer ever lived- AD 1700-1800
Govinda Marar (1798 - 1843), more famously known as Shadkala Govinda Marar was a Carnatic (South Indian Classical) singer from Ernakulam (DT), Kerala, INDIA. He was a contemporary of Saint Thyagaraja Swamikal (the legendary singer, poet and Music composer) and Swathy Thirunal Rama Varma Raja (King of erstwhile Travacore in Kerala, singer, poet and Music Composer). He was also adept in playing musical instruments like Mridangam, Chenda, Edakka and Thimila in any odd timing. His expertise in singing in six degrees of speed (around 32 notes per second) earned him the title ShadKaala (shadkaala= 32nd notes; Demi Semi Quaver speed)
Govinda Marar was born in 1798 in Ramamangalam village in Kerala. His parents belonged to community of Marars (They are considered to be experts in Temple percussion instruments) and performed traditional singing in the temples of Kerala. He took to singing from a very early age. He received his musical lessons from Haripad Ramaswamy Bhagavathar.
He is said to have used a Tamburu having seven strings (conventional Tamburu has only four strings even now). At the age of 21, he left his home to begin a life for Music and was wandering. He is believed to have sung in many important temples in India.
However, he desired to meet the legendary Singer Saint Thayaga Raja Swamikal, who was residing in the state of Tamilnadu. But he was laughed at by Musicians including the Disciples (Great Professional Musicians) of Thyagaraja Swamikal. But when the Saint heard that somebody has come to meet him, he called him inside and requested him to sing a song for him. Then he sang a Classical song, improvised the Swaras (notes) and reached the highest speed. Then the Saint saluted him and composed his famous song then and there in "Sree Ragam". The song named "Endoru Mahaanu" has deepest meaning in it....that "....there are so many GREAT SOULS in the World in different fields and my salute all those people......" This song is sung every year, even now ,on his birthday in different parts of India by musicians, all sitting together (irrespective of professionals and others) as a tribute to him.
After leading the life of a wandering for a long time, he reached the temple of Panduranga ( Pandharpur in Maharashtra). He was revered as Paramahamsa Govinda Das. The temple records note that he attained Samadhi (died) in 1843

Many people write to me that playing fast Bass is not Music. But the aforesaid facts reveal that Musicians used to attempt to sing and play notes at higher pace even centuries before. So I believe that there is nothing wrong in playing Music at Higher pace, and there is meaning in it....though Music is not playing fast alone... But I always love to Groove than playing fast.

Hey Golem... if you have opportunity..listen to some Iron Maiden, any album will do...half the time they are singing about personal journeys or some famous novel like Dune or Coolridge's 'rhyme of the ancient mariner'. And if it seems like the guitars and bass are 'following' each other, its because many of the tunes are written by the bass guitarist, Steve Harris.

That's a pretty amazing record you hold. What was the previous record? Did you set the record on a Warwick? I saw some of your vids on youtube and I was in awe. You use such complex time signatures. I've never heard anything like that. Very interesting.

Hhhhmmmnnn .... 30 bps is slower than the 36 bps of the world record.
Now, if you can hammer about 30 bps, regardless of tone, you would
generate a low-B note, cuz thaz about 30hz. So, you could hammer any
and all notes you want, even muted toneless notes, and they would be
accompanied by a [approximately] low-B wail.

I set the Record on an ordinery bass Guitar @US $ 150. I claimed and submitted my Record Attempt description as Percussive Bass Playing,since molody will be lost when speed increases and the strings ve to be muted to avoid overlaping of notes sound. I am to set another record in melodic bass playin next year.. Present Guinness record in this category is 4 notes/beat at 250 BPM. I tried it and do it at 260 BPM. However, there re some guys who play this speed, but they dont apply or go for a Record.
In my video of 23/8 , I played only at 230 BPM. I don t practice on Guitar all the time, but I have some finger excecise tools in my pocket all the time...I practice on that...I myself made that tool.... Thats the best way to gain finger movement, I believe so!. I will play infront of all those who don t believe it and all those who believe it.
My Band Indian Epics(Raga-Funk-Rock) has shows on 17th, 31st and so on in India... and I play bass solos live. We are to record our album after 17th. I know, I am now into the middle to face massive criticism. But I keep my fingers moving... and surely with a Warwick soon.......

Make a video of this so called world record speed you have to prove it...

I've googled you (sadly I actually wasted my time doing that) and all I found was myspace links, youtube links (which didn't contain any thing that is near the speed you claim you can play) and various blog posts claiming that you are the world record holder. I have not seen anything official on any official sites claiming what you do.

It sounds to me like this is all a made up "world record" and just an attempt for you to get your name known.

World records are for professional atheletes and olympians... bass guitars are for groovin'. I say leave the records to the guys and gals in the tiny shorts with numbers pinned to thier shirts, passing the batons and jumping over things. :lol:

Well the thing is... If your apparently holding the world record for speed... You sort of, HAVE TO PROVE IT! otherwise it's useless to claim that you have a world record. Angry? I'm not angry... I just think your a liar. And until you actually prove it, I will continue to think so.

It's stupid to go around everywhere and claim you hold this record if you can't prove it. I've been to your myspace page, your youtube videos, etc. etc. etc. and you claim you are the record holder for speed... And I have yet to see anything that proves it.

I believe Jaco said "It ain't bragging if you can back it up" -- And clearly... You can't.

Bro..I never lie.....Please wait for a week to let it appear in the net..... Even if I play it infront of you, you wont believe...coz, notes at that range should be made in Wave form in Studios and that has to be counted visually.. Don t feel that only famous Big guys can do things like these... You can also do it...
I am sure not to upload any videos without a good Guitar. Because thats the one reason which resulted in undue criticism about tones, melodies, clarity etc etc.
