Old Streamer bass- possible prototype?

Hello All,
I'm new here and glad to be aboard. I recently bought a Warwick bass and need some help finding out exactly what I have. It looks to be a Streamer, is neck - thru with a 5- piece neck, brass bridge, knobs and frets. The pickups are EMG's, with a P-J configuration. There is a serial number on the very end of the headstock and reads K1680. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hey, Ray. Welcome to the forum!

You should post some pictures of your bass. It would help the history geeks here easily give you all the info you need on your bass :)

It's a Streamer Stage 1 with a Cherry body.
It's not a prototype or VERY early. My guess would be 88-90.
It's tuners are angled and it has the new kind of headstock, not the spector design.
EMG pickups..

Nevertheless it's a real beauty! Nice find!
 
Thanks so much for the info. Would you have an approximate worth? It's got some playwear, but sounds like a $100 bill.

I know that for a mid to late 1980s Spector NS2 closely corresponding
to your bass the price with case would be above $1500, and certainly
the higher priced operators would go for $2000. I'd figger the Wick at
3/4 to 7/8 of the Spector if it's a standard catalog model. If there is
anything nonstandard, extra special, or unique about your particular
bass, I wouldn't know about that aspect.

So cool to see an older W thaz not brown ! Even if there is nothing
nonstandard about your bass, it's possible that, given its era, the red
finish might be good for an extra Benjie or more :-)

serously that is a lovely bass! i almost bought the same. maybe it's the same bass?:
 
They look to be the same model, but I can see the EMG logo on his pickups better than mine. This bass has been somebody's workhorse for a good while and after I detailed it out and put some fresh strings on her, I can certainly see why. It rivals any non- Hazlab Spector out there!

Seiing as it has no year after the serial number should be pretty easy to establish what year this bass was built.
Max(Mr.Rabble) should know.

thanks for the update on the profile. this will help you sell this since this is what you seem to be doing more than just asking question on this. you don't like it? don't like the sound?
 
I love it-I've collected Spectors for years and played this bass today. It's similar to some of my pre- Kramers and I'm kinda torn- but everytime my wife sees another bass go up on the wall or in the office, she immediately equates the new addition to hardwood floors, nails and hair done, etc. I'm just not sure what this red bass will cost me in "wifey" terms yet......
