Now I need some explanation

I got a custom $$ with exotic woods and a piezo for around the same as an American Fender Jazz!!! By no means are they overpriced, if anything they're really bang for your bucks!
 
you got that for $1,049.99 - $1,154.99 (list: $1,499.99 - $1,649.99)
not to undermine you, because i believe you... but where?
 
At our gig the other night the band after us was usnig a Gibson Les Paul bass w/ Bartolini PU's and the tone was amazing. I still only play Warwicks but there are other basses out there that sound great...
 
I'm pleased to say that I have owned both a Precision (1975) and a USA Jazz (2000). The Pbass was only my second bass which I P/X for a Stingray many years later. IMHO I preferred the Pbass to the Jazz so the Jazz went. Still if economics wasn't the issue I would still have the Fender P but there you go. There would always be room in my 'collection' for another 70s Pbass but the prices are getting crazy. £1000+ for a good one and you don't really know what you are getting. To put things into perspective I payed £750 for my Thumb which was practically brand new and £500 for the SS1. The tones you can get out of them two basses don't warrant me getting any more basses but a 70s sunburst with lots of mojo just floats my boat! 8) But like somebody said before there's this consistency factor with Fenders which I have experienced before.
 
The custom $$ is around the same price as the bass you mentioned and $1500 is about the average one might pay for a decent bass BUT almost $4000 for a new out of the box Thumb NT is what I refered to as pricey. Generally I think EBay is where many will be buying a used Thumb NT to save some $$$ however you're taking a risk if theres a problem with it.
