Why everyone hear is bashing fender and MM. Even though I'm a huge warwick fan because of the distinctive sound and growl, I still recognize that MM and Fender basses are good stuff. If they weren't I wouldn't have bought myself a Jazz Bass and you can be sure that I wouldn't exchange it for a warwick. I simply need it for some bass tones. But, I will get a warwick CS someday (that will be my next bass). So tell me why you guys are not even able to recognize that they are good bass, even though you don't like their sound.
 
I think you may be misunderstanding some "team spirit" for "bashing", flipper. Many forum members here also own other basses besides their Warwicks. Keep in mind that this is the "Warwick" board, though, and no matter what else we play, we're all here pretty much because we agree that nothing tops a Warwick bass, in our humble opinions.

So again; don't think "bashing"; think "team spirit". 8)
 
shhhh, don't tell anyone, but i like Fender too. a J-bass is what i learned to play on, and i'll always love it.

dig the tone, just like i dig the growl from my Thumb.
 
I'd say that anyone serious about playing bass should own a P or J bass at some point - they're the classics that started it all. ~M~
 
i own 2 fender basses and I have had a MM too... i really miss my MM... thinking of getting a 5 stringer...

i agree with Seth... we all love ALL basses but yeah, we're on the Warwick board so you know what we're going to talk about the most!
 
I've not owed a fender but before i got my first Warwick i was nearly gonna buy one. My only gripe as both are made in batches and thus quality varies. My friend got lucky with a MM stingray and it trumps my Warwick hands down its just an amazing bass.

But yes like everyone else said everyone is here because they love Warwicks
 
Yeah I know there's some team spirit stuff, I understand. It was more because I read many times on this forum things like: I'd rather buy an Ibanez Gio and lit it on fire than a CS fender or, I got a fender to beat people that try to touch my 'wicks, etc... You know that kind of stuff.

and for the batch thing, this is true. I've played a fender that sounded like total garbage then I tried mine and I was like, uhh? a Fender can have a growl like this?
 
I try not to bash any, but MM's are OK and I don't like Fender at all. But that is just me...

+1 - IMO Nothing beats a Warwick :)
 
Not much for Fenders...


But I do love my Lakland DJ 4.. Does a Jazz bass then a Fender.
 
That "war" between MM, Fender and Warwick reminds me of something.




I was at a shop in Lyon, asking if they would do Custom Shop orders (it was before I ordered mine). The seller answered me "no, sorry. Anyway nobody wants a Warwick these days. Warwick on the market ? It's ZERO. Nothing. Everyone wants a Fender or a Musicman, not a Warwick. The brand died in the 90's and it won't get back that soon since no one wants a Warwick nowadays."


The guy is supposed to be a Warwick dealer... No wonder if he thinks that way, since the price tag of the only Warwick they had (Streamer LX from 97) was 1600 euros...
 
Having moved from Fender to Warwick, I can say that I am definetly a Warwick player because since having my corvette I've managed to become the player I was trying with my Spector and Fender, but I would never say no to owning another jazz. I've noticed the way some people talk about Fender but it's all in good spirits and as others have said its a Warwick forum.

The Warwick growl is only attainable through a Warwick, and that classic Jazz growl is only really attaitnable through a Fender J though other basses come very close but hey it's all down to tastes really, P-Basses now thats a different story :wink:
 
It's funny, I tried a bunch of basses and settled on a Warwick for it's natural sound and variety of sounds possible...all of them useable.

I played a Stingray and Fender Jazz and was totally unimpressed with the Fender, just didn't have the same scope of sound. The Stingray was great sounding but was a little bit too much a 'one trick pony'. I also tried a Bongo and loved the sonic capabilities but hated the looks and playability. Also tried Spectors but didn't like the tone controls....just way to OTT for my liking - the treble could take your head off and the bass was kind of unpredicatable.

All in all I felt that the Warwicks represented the 'professional' sounding bass that I was after. I was open to the others but they just didn't measure up...but it's very much a personal thing.

Hey Josh, welcome to the forum :-)

I bought my first warwick in 1995, it was a corvette proline, really loved her. Than I was looking for a 5 stringer, and I've found a MM with a really tight low B. It was my workhorse between 2001 and 2006.
Last year I've decided to look for another instruments, since I was not happy anymore with My Stingray 5. I was looking for the best instrument, not for a specific brand, and the instruments that worked for me were Yamahas and Warwicks. I bought 7 basses last year : yamaha trb 5 II, Another yamaha TRB 5 II, Rickenbacker, yamaha trb 5 P, Warwick streamer LX, Warwick Thumb 5 NT, and Warwick Streamer Stage II 5. All of these basses worked for me better than the almighty Music Man, but the Warwicks had something extra I was looking for.
It was hard for me to decide which one I want to keep...
The streame r LX has a very deep, powerfull, synthetic kind of sound, thumb NT has a very mean, and unique sound, imposible to describe, the best cutting bass I've ever played,
I chosed Streamer Stage II for its specific sound...

So... what to say... I love all the basses, the Stingray 5 was my love for 5 years, and 5 albums recorded. I've recorded 4 songs of our last album with a Rickenbacker. I just love Warwicks more :-) And you know why? Because they have a boutique look, but they feel strong and long lasting as Fenders. You are never afraid to play hard a Streamer Stage II, she is practicly asking for it :-)

I dont think we bash Fenders & MM's at all.Go over to talkbass or the MM forum & read some real brand bashing,the banter we engage in is light hearted,friendly & witty,nothing more.The 2 instances the tread starter mentioned is one members signature
& a post from crap knows where.That hardly constitutes full on brand bashing now,cmon.
Even raising this subject just purpetuates it & before we know it,were doing exactly what this guy is saying we're doing.

Warwick Thumb :shock: ... :evil: ... 8) ...

Hopefully, there are different things for different tastes. I play a Warwick bass but everyone is free to play something else, free to make a mistake... (bad joke, sorry)
 
For me,

Warwick is number one (at this moment; I haven't tried every bass in the wordl), but I still consider the Fender Jazz as a sacred instrument; it's definitely on my wish list. :D

Each brand of bass has it's own style and sound... Which I can respect... I just happen to have the highest respects for Warwick :)

I really do like a jazz bass with a good setup though :) Although I have yet to put my hands on anything that beats my 6 string thumb :)
 
i own vintage fender pbass and jbass... ibanez soundgear...etc....still im looking for the right sound for me... but still i wanna try MM and other basses... tonewise and neck feel, craftmanship.....i think warwick will be my last bass!!!!!! i like the wood. wenge neck, string spacing, and electronics...im still gassing for infinity and fretless corvette8)
 
Fenders Are Great Basses, and I'd kill for a Musicman Bongo. Just like I'd kill for a Streamer Jazzman :D
Seriously, I love my Fender Precision Bass. Great sound!
