Well luckily on this forum everyone seems to be quite nice and seem to take some gear bashing all tongue in cheek but on some forums I have seen some brand purists acting very proud and dismissing every other brand opposed to what they play, and the sad thing is I've met people like this and regardless of their playing ability you just can't like them, but this forum is just a place to appreciate Warwick basses, they're just unique and give evry player their own identity, just in some cases some players do not really create their own voice they just become clones.


And as for Martinie, he and Dirk Lance (Or Alex Katunich, whichever floats your boat) have been the 2 major players who have helped me find my own voice as of late. They are just pureley amazing and sound even better because of the wooden plank things they use :wink:
 
Why care what others think if you like them?!?!? If everyone bought basses based on what everyone else says I'm fairly certain that Fender would be the only brand left :(

nah, not necessarily. Fenders are not that popular among every scene anymore, or in every shop. For example, at my local musicstore they would tell you, if you're asking for fender, "Fender's overrated, buy a Sandberg."
Well yeah in other (bigger) stores they would probably sell you a fender right away.

But both are totally reasonable brands!
 
Of course they are! But you wouldn't choose one over the other because of what some other guy tells you would you? If you like the sound and the way it plays, who cares?!?!?

no question, i was more referring to your comment "what everyone else says". I was just pointing out that fender isnt that popular anymore ;)
 
Fair enough. It's just that the majority of stores I see have more fenders than any other brand... Don't get me wrong, I don't disklike the sound of fenders (JACO!), but I just feel the quality is far below what I would expect at that price...
 
The thing that sucks about some stores is and has been mentioned is when the person has no idea what they're talking about and they're pushing their opinion down on you, and it's even worse when you know they're just talking crap because for some reason they are "Correct".

When shopping for basses we usually have an idea for what we want, either to just go in find the Warwick section and noodle away until they throw you out, or look through the other makes with an open mind and ear really, but if your mind is set for the right reasons then all the person in the shop needs to do is honor that and sell the bass to you, not to discredit what we know and then try to flog us a MIM Fender P-Bass because EVERYONE uses them :?
 
My 2 cents....I just picked up a new Fender jazz bass and it kicks ass! However, a vet bass player friend of mine came over to check it out and told me how lucky I was to get one in perfect condition. So I'm thinking...Lucky? It had a $1200 price tag like the Stingray next to it and luck of the draw, construction wise is still a factor. All Warwicks are not perfect either but the chances of getting a bad one are slim so that's something we are proud of. I'm sure I'll experiment with many basses but if Mr. Wilfner ever sent up the giant "W" in the sky over Germany, I'm on the next flight! :)

I cant honestly claim to be a fan of Fender basses, but there's no doubt that they must be getting something right!

I guess that when it comes to high end basses like Warwicks, Sandbergs, Fenders, MM's, Kinals, etc, there isn't really a 'best' perse, its all just about your own personal preferences.

And I perfer Warwick!
 
I think most of us in this forum got done with "bashing" when we got tired of silly discussions on other "serious, but with many non-serious players"-forums.

I played Yamahas for 7 years until I got my Warwick, and after that I found a gem in a cheap Coxx J-bass for 200$. I still use all of them because of their identity and because they remind of the past too, what I started with etc. etc.

personally i think it's more fun to type F*nder. I have a Telecaster and i love it. basswise, i haven't played a fender that impressed me. I just don't like the bite they have, it doesn't sound natural. I'd still like a MM, although like someone said earlier, it is a bit of a one tone bass. i have a rockbass and i think that trumps every fender i've played.

+1 Just like my bass, I know I got lucky to get one of that quality.

But don't get me wrong, I love warwicks maybe as much as you all(maybe except Florin :roll: ) and I'd die to have the money to get a CS corvette $$ 5, but I gotta go to university and it costs a lot. Anyway, thx for the comments everyone, I unterstood what you were saying by STRONG team spirit.
 
There should really be a grant or scholarship for those Warwick players going to university! Unless I stumble upon a treasure chest, my next bass is far away!

Oh yeah, I think in a way Fender can be compared to Coca Cola. Some prefer Pepsi or Dr Pepper................and some don't like Coca Cola at all..............but people will always be drinking Coca Cola, and it will be most popular for a long time................. :roll:
 
yeah... i call every soda (unless i want something specific) a coke. they're just that good.
 
Is Ford better than GM or Chrysler? All depends what you want. I own several basses and never owned a Fender anything. I just never cared for them HOWEVER sound engineers love Fender because they're easy to mix. Is a standard bass sound found on just about all music from the 50's to now. Personally I think Warwick is way over priced and some may feel a bit of prestige owning one - or two - or three, but I didnt say they sound bad. Warwick has it own distinct sound signature.
When you play live you better tell the sound tech how to dial in your Wick or you might as well have brought a Fender because 9 out of 10 times he's going to mix you that way.
