My CS Corvette Arrived Today!

All I can say is wow. That bass is SOOOOO nice!
And I usually find corvettes to be less exotic (compared to thumbs, streamers and buzzards!) and far more standard looking. This one nearly made me wet my pants.

(I didn't have time to write the last time I posted :P )
 
Beautiful bass Luke! Worth the wait, and I'm sure the tone makes you forget about the dent! I'll have to drop by sometime and have a play on it...maybe we should organise a casual melbourne warwick users bbq and bass day!

that is the most striking bass i have seen in a long time - so elegant and bold in its simplicity...reallllllly making me reconsider what i want for my CS if i can ever afford one...kudos!

This is awesome. The afzelia/ovangkol looks fairly simple but there is something eye-catchingly beautiful and exotic about it.

How much did that set you back?

Wow thats very good. The less than $2000 Bubinga price was only as introduction to having the Bubinga ones widely available in Australia. They're up around $2699 for the 4string or so now I think, so you did very well!! You've got it $100 cheaper than an Active Ash 4 actually....F**K!
 
Yeah - good price.

I think when I got my Fretted 4 Bubinga Active the list price on it was about $2399 or similar, and I paid $1900.

Remember that the fretless is passive also, which saves some money, and almost offsets the cost of the different timbers.

All in all a very good price though, I'm very happy.

And Eric from Frontier Music Ivanhoe where I bought it was a pleasure to deal with every step of the way ;)
 
Here's a small sound clip I just recorded:

The strings are some 6 month old fairly dead DR Sunbeams I grabbed from the cupboard, seeing as though my dealer wasn't able to coordinate a new set of Sunbeams to arrive with my new bass and I didn't want to play the rough stainless rounds on this bass. Some new Sunbeams should arrive soon hopefully.

The recording methodology is as follows:

Bass set with tone all the way up, pickup blend favouring the bridge pickup slightly.

Bass into Warwick Blue Cab 20 combo, all EQ dead flat. Line out from Combo into M-Audio USB Mobile-Pre.

M-Audio USB Mobile-Pre into Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and recorded in Audacity with no post processing. Encoded into mp3 using lame at 128 bits.



Getting that intonation right above the twelfth fret (actually, anywhere for that matter!) is tough :D

Hopefully with some serious practice I can get it to a decent level.

I'm thrilled with the bass though - just got to work on driving it.
