Woohoo!!!

After an 18 week wait, my fretless Afzelia Custom Shop Corvette arrived today!

Congrats! It's been a long wait hasn't it? I'm sure it was worth it! :D

OK :D I have taken some quick pics this afternoon for you all :D

The bass is lovely! Everything I had hoped it would be. Great build, lovely timber, and great tone!

Sadly, whoever packed it at the Warwick factory, secured the Warwick straplocks to the back of the headstock with a rubber band.

A very silly thing to do in my opinion!

As a result, something obviously got knocked or pressed against them, leaving a dent in the Ovangkol on the back of the headstock! :x

My heart sank to the pit of my stomach when I saw it!!!

After some very careful work, I was fortunate enough to be able to almost steam all of the dent out of the timber and now it's virtually not noticeable - I was lucky!

Might I suggest to Warwick that the straplocks be better packed in the Warwick Bass owner's kit with the wax etc to prevent damage to future basses?

Other than that - everything is lovely.

The Bass shipped with Warwick Black Label strings as expected, and Warwick also kindly included a set of EMPs with the bass in the Owner's kit! :D I have put my favourite DR Sunbeams straight on the fretless, but have placed the EMPs on my Bubinga Corvette to try - I shan't let them go to waste! ;)

Absolutely stunning bass! I totally covet it (in the nicest possible way). Weird that they should do that with the straplocks, rather than sticking them in the wax pocket in the user kit (where most of us find them)... maybe it was a newbie bass packer! glad it's all right now, though!

I thought exactly the same thing about the straplocks. Very weird, and nearly ended in tears.

The dent isn't totally out now, but after some careful work steaming it with a wet towel and soldering iron it's almost all gone, and you have to look to see it.
 
thats an awesome bass mate, congrats

that sucks about the straplock thing, you would think that warwick would take better care off the bass'es that their customer pay so much money for. :)
 
That's one of the nicest fretless'es I've seen! Very clean look!
 
very cool bass! I think you'll like the passive pups, they sound just right to me on my fretless...

I love passive pickups.

I've actually just gone back to the active MECs on my fretted Bubinga Corvette to give them another try after having it configured with passive Barts for some time, but I chose passive pups for my fretless, because as you say - they sound just right to me :D

The passive MEC Js are a little noisy, as they're not RW/RP but I think they're quite a nice pup nonetheless - I do very much like the tone. At some point I'll shield the pickup cavities, and add some more conductive shielding paint to the control cavity to reduce the noise from them.

All in all a beautiful bass!

The Afzelia timber is lovely. A little dry - but that's how I remember my Bubinga Corvette when I got it. After some wax love it'll look gorgeous. The thing I like about the natural oil finishes is that they start off looking very nice, but with subsequent waxings and age, they just look better and better - the sheen just gets deeper and warmer.

There is a fretless Afzelia passive Corvette floating about that I've seen pictures of, but it doesn't have a matching headstock. Otherwise the same ;)

Of course there may be others - that's the closest I've seen ;)
 
i rarely see photos that actually capture how good a warwick looks, but these have!
 
What a seriously clean cut of Afzelea..............It's a good thing I'm not into fretless, otherwise I'd be having some serious GAS for one............ 8) Congratulations with that fine piece of Warwick bass man. :D
