matching speakers

Is it a good idea to have all the same type speakers in a cab?? I'm thinking of replacing 2 of 4 of my 10's, but I'm not so sure. The overall impedance of the cab wouldn't change, but it's the differing drivers is what I'm wondering about.

Its a good idea to have the speakers in the cab that were designed for it. Cabs are tuned to specific frequencies. Putting in speaker different to the original ones can give you problems.

Cab sizes and speakers must not have mattered much in the early days, when they were nearly all 4x12 cabs. Whether your Marshall/Hiwatt/Sound City cab was for guitar or bass, or whatever wattage they were, they used the same cab. You could have Fane, Celestion, Electovoice, JBL or whatever boutique speaker you wanted in them.
There were firms selling empty cabs for you to put whatever speaker you liked in, including folded horn enclosures, which were supposed to be a tuned cabinet. It must have all been hit and miss.
Then came along Thiele-Small parameters and ruined it all.
