Just got a used Corvette

I just picked up a used Corvette 5 String. I got it 650 US Dollars. It is a little abused, but I can do some work. The nut is broken, but while I'm waiting for a replacement to come I drilled into the base part of the nut right where the set screws touch. That much is holding it in place nicely. It is missing the top of the stacked nob. I can deal with that till the new one comes. The set up was horrible. I straightened the neck, reset the bridge and replaced some screws in the bridge for intination adjustments. Any opinion if I get a decent deal or if I got screwed over?

It has DR tapered strings. i'm not sure I like the strings. Do most people keep tapered strings on their Warwicks?

I am new to this Forum too, I will be reading more, but I'm very excited to get out playing my newly aquired Warwick. If anyone has any tips I would love that.

I'm happy to be a new Warwick Player.
 
Welcome aboard! Would love to see before pics and then after once you do the clean up work.

$650 is a great price for a 5-string. The parts you need can be provided (usually for free) by Dana B. Goods. Call Tyler (you may have to try several times) at (805) 856-1709 and see if he'll take care of you. Body work is pretty straight forward and Warwicks clean up nice. You'll have it looking like new in no time!

I like DR strings, but prefer Warwick Black Label and EMP strings, which have the tapered B instead of having to crimp the B on the DRs to fit. Try a set of Warwick strings and see if it doesn't feel and sound like it was a match made in heaven!

And look out for that crazy belgian that hangs around these parts and does custom bass mockups. He'll get you GASsing for a buzzard or for a sext custom shop bass in no time...

hey jeremiah! welcome to the forum! i'm using the DR tapered strings too on my ash corvette std 5. i think they sound ok but a little too dark. the best i've tried imo were thomastik infeld super alloys. woah those gave the best definition and throaty mids. precisely what i need to do to make my ash vette sound like the bubinga one.

problem was the bridge that only allowed tapered strings. i tried filing them though but ended up with scrathces on the body until i was smart to take the bridge out to file. but then the file slipped and now i have a scratched bridge. not obvious but stil there if u looked closely. *wince in pain*

i paid a price similar to yours for my new vette but that was because my dealer usually throws a 50% discount sale a the end of the year to clear old stock. (not that much considering they always give a 20-30% discount off their list price anyway).

anyway good on you for owning a warwick! i know mine's to keep for my lifetime. many more additions will be on the way. heh.

Is there any way to tell what year my Corvette was made? I can see the Serial number, but I don't know what the numbers mean if they mean anything at all.

Last two digits are the year, the first letter is the month: A-xxxxxx-01 would be January of 2001, etc... ~M~
 
Welcome to the forum and yes, that IP tracker is scary (not only the looks, but also the way that it finds you).

good deal on the Vette.

alright... now that's over... great price. i got mine for about the same price from vakkmere here on the forums... i was quite excited.

WOW!!! you got a heck of a deal man!!!! that bass is beautifu and also seems to be in mint cond. When I first read the post I thought of an old banged up Warwick but this is a steal at $650 was that dollars? (I do not see your location on your profile) .

Please let us know if you do not want it at any point in time. please!!!
 
Very nice Vette indeed! I love the way the Bubinga grain flows in one direction.... very defined and very nice! Congrats again.

Yep got it in Colorado!

It didn't look like this when I got it. I fixed up some of the Hardware then cleaned and oiled the crap out of it.
