I bit the bullet, and got meself a Corvette $$ 5 Burgundy Red, with my bonus money :) And yes, it's a red, not a NBK!

However much I love my Thumb, it's just a bit too unwieldy, and it is holding me back in my progress. It's a lovely instrument, with a mean attitude, but it's really a pro thing, not a 'intermediate' bass. So, it might go for sale for a very reasonable price in the spring :)

I've tried various basses, and really enjoyed a Stingray single humbucker, but it was a bit one-dimensional, not what I was looking for. Lovely natural sound, and typical SR bite.

I also tried HH but the setup was all wrong, which was a shame. The pickups were recessed deep in the body, so the sound lacked a whole lot of bite, but I would suspect it would be a problem for slap. Verrry close to the fretboard, and I tend to slap on the frets.

I'm still very much in the warwick club. Although I was tempted with a Spector NS2. But at £2400, I would have to nick it :) I also tried a Corvette and Streamer FNA jazzman. Liked the tones, but not quite there. The $$ seems to be everything I want in a bass, so there it goes :) goddamn GAS.

It arrived! And not even one month old! (January 2007).

Man, it made a lot of people notice. What a gorgeous bass it is. The added bonus being, it's got gold hardware, and it's spanking! Looks to die for, not liking the strings too much (as usual with the warwicks), they feel very rough, but that's a minor point. I was worried it would not be here for the weekend, but no worries :) That will keep me well and truely busy.

Didn't ask for it. Guess I got lucky, it really complements the stained finish. I got a alluminum Rockcase as well, even though the bag is really good. I love new stuff, especially of that quality :) Great gigbag, loads of stickers, a cool booklet, and a really shiny new-born bass that looks like a million bucks :)!
 
Gold hardware ! What a weird surprise... It would disapoint me: I HATE gold hardware ! :cry:

So many sounds! Fave so far is when I manage to get that burpy tone. THe strings need to be bedded in to get more of that. One thing I've noticed though, You have to be carefuil not to bang the strings on the pole pieces. And no problem with slapping. And it likes it!

To me, the gold hardware on this particular bass and colour gives the bass more "sophistication", something FNA Jazzman like. The standard $$ appears to me more "raw"..............

good choice for a bass! Yeah, I think the Thumb is a great bass, but not for beginners. You are right that it is unwieldy, but it is worth it. Having a Stingray single pickup, i agree 100%. It has a sound all of its own and some serious bite, but it has no versatility. The Warwicks just look classier, whereas the Stingray looks more like a work horse bass that is meant to take abuse.
 
Really nice. I'm wondering if this actually is a CS which someone rejected for whatever reason. Gold hardware is not standard. Rockcase is also not standard.

I bet you made a very good deal in that case. It's beautiful! :shock:

Just lower the PUs a bit to prevent clicking.
 
The bass looks good indeed but still, not a big fan of gold hardware...
 
Yes, it's quite bling. Black is cool too.

The rockcase was extra. Quite expensive and heavy, but then, the bass will fear nothing. The bag is awesome though. Really really good and well designed.

I'll have the weekend to cook up some tunes and sound samples, and let the strings settle. That bass got my creativity spurred!
 
Very nice. I'm not a fan of the gold but in this case it looks great.

i don't usually like red basses, but with that bling hardware is just awesome :D
that rockcase is heavy as hell huh? it took me a couple weeks learning how to take it from the car to the second floor (where i live) without fainting :roll: :D :D
 
Nice colours red and gold together- really eye catching. :shock:

Soon in my collection: Corvette FNA 5, Almond Sunburst/Gold hardware. :D
 
Hi, I´m new in this forum, but I have read the forum a long time
The $$ in red with its gold hardware is the best looking $$ I´ve seen. So, really, really nice bass!

Currently I have no Warwick bass (only my first bass-> a yamaha :cry: ) but as soon as I have the money together I am going to buy me a Corvette $$ 5 ( but a used one)..That will be around august or so... :P (such a loooooong time to wait)

PS: Please excuse me for my bad english, I´m from Germany :wink:
 
Welcome to the forum Williboyd. I agree, red with gold hardware does look cool!

Don't forget to post pictures of your new bass when you finally get it. It'll be worth the wait!
