I ordered my Corvette Std. Today!!! My Second Wick!

Hey guys...just had to tell someone...I ordered a Corvette Std. 5 String with the bubinga body/ovankol neck and active electronics today! My Custom Shop Thumb 5 Fretless (#252 in the gallery) plays like an absolute dream and I am so happy with it, I had to try on another Wick! I'm hooked on the sound of wood!! :D
What tonal differences might I expect between the two basses? The Thumb absolutely growls and the tonal range is incredible with the 3 band active eq. The Corvette has the 2 band eq but the same MEC pickups as far as I can tell.

Luckily they will sound very different!
The Thumb growls in the upper mids, whereas bubinga growls in the lower mids. It's low end is usually described as tight as compared to the ash version which is quite bassy.

Congrats on going from a thumb to a corvette, you don't see that awesome. I hope you like it, I have the same bass!
 
I will send pics along as soon as it arrives! Being a lefty, it will likely take a few weeks to arrive here in Canada. I had hoped for a different sound with the Corvette...not better, just different. I just played my first gig with the Thumb, and it was a hit for sure. I'm running Gallien Kruegers new Fusion 550 tube hybrid head through Mesa Boogie 4x10 and 2x10 cabs, and I gotta tell you that I had the ability to CRUSH my lead players Marshall! (I didn't, but could have) with the Thumb.

No bass sounds like a Thumb, so you don't have to worry there...

The Corvette will be a nice addition to your collection. The sound will be different from the Thumb, but very recognizably Warwick. Set flat, I'd say you'll find the Corvette to have more booty, while the Thumb has more presence and ability to be heard in a mix.

The 2-band EQ has a very wide and useable Q on the treble control. Frequency control is centered close to 2.5K hz, whereas the Thumb is centered up around 8K hz... very different. Cranking the treble on a 'Vette for more presence will get out of hand really quick. You'll have fun experimenting though! Congrats...
 
Thanks for the info on the eq sjw! Sounds like the Vettes have a scooped mid and accentuated lows and hi's. I'm looking very forward to adding this bass to my gear.

Man...the anticipation is KILLING me!! I have a new Rockstand with an empty space and I think a new Vette will look great in there!

I was just looking at your Thumb... looks very nice. here it is for those that do not want to dig it up and like everything on the same thread (I am one of them) :




The Vette will sound different than the Thumb. I have heard Thumbs and Vettes with same wood on body and neck and still they sound very different.

Yes i agree, i had a 5 stringer bubinga vette and these basses have deep lows and brillant highs with scooped mids. very good bass for 'heavy work' like Metal and likes IMHO.
 
Thanks for the replies and info guys. I appreciate the link to my Thumb in the thread as well! Once this bass arrives, I'm thinking a Custom Shop Streamer LX or Dolphin will be on my GAS list. My birthday (Jan 28) would be a good time to order...yes??? LOL
I have an obsession apparently...with the sound of wood!

Hey Donnyhill, i guess the 2nd of januari will be a good day to get a new warwick, it'll be your birthday combined with the start of a new year with the best intentions (like playing a lot of Warwick Bass :D )

By the way i like the Dolphin Basses a lot an have been GAS-sing a lot on these babies 8)
 
I'm still anxiously awaiting the arrival of this Vette, and have heard a rumour that the importer to North America (Dana B Goods) will no longer be carrying the Warwick line. Has anyone else heard this? God I hope this is not the case. My Custom Shop Thumb arrived faster than this stock Corvette order.
Is there any chance that Warwick might set up a North American distribution center or factory outlet??
 
Yes, Dana B Goods will no longer be dealing with Warwick, but never fear - there is another distributor in the pipeline to look after you.

Thanks for the reply, and for setting my mind at ease. With me being left handed and in Canada, my choices of instruments of this quality are extremely limited. It's Warwick or nothing for me!
