Not anything profound. Just thought it would be something you guys could
appreciate.

I went to my lesson last night and my instructor didn't bring his bass (he's
a guitarist 1st bassist 2nd). He had to show me a few things by playing
them on a bass so I let him use my Thumb (NT 4). He did a few lines and
a little slap thing to show the theory. After playing it a couple times and
explaining the theory he was teaching he stopped and said "that bass is
really good for slap". It caught me off guard cuz he's usually all about
working on the material and no chatting about crap.

I told him that the bass was actually made for slap technique. He was
interested. I said that he upper arm is shorter to make the bass sit a
certain way in your arms and that the basses name is the Thumb bass. He
was like wow you learn something new everyday and continued with his
lesson.

Side note:
Do you guys ever find it fun to let other people play your bass so you can
see how awesome it looks on someone? Then think thats my bass and its
gotta look that cool on me?

Nope. So far no one has wanted to play my Warwick.

Actually, when I lived back in NS and bought my first one, all my peers thought I was trying to be better then them. They all played "emo/ Screamo" and played on little jay tursor basses that may have been about 250 bucks tops.

By ordering a 5-string hand made warwick bass that cost a fortune, they all looked at it, said thats pretty cool, then made a huff sound. I felt bad. I was basically an outcast from then on in. But I can blame my dealer, as when they would come in, and I was getting it adjusted, he would go on about how I spent 6k on a bass. Needless to say, it didn't help anything.

When I moved out to Alberta, it was similar. I would get together and when I would pull the bass out, everyone would start on me. They wouldn't even let me play to prove them wrong. They would say something like: "an expensive bass doesn't mean anything, the player can still suck". Worst part was they weren't even talking to me. They would take to other band members while saying it pretending like I wasn't even there.

Playing Warwick for me has been a gift, and a curse.

Edit: The only band I have been in since owning a warwick has been a band full of older guys. It's actually the dealer who sold it to me's band. Terrible times. I have no pics of my wick on me, save the ones my girlfriend takes when I jam every now and then.

You should do what I did.

Get her to wear it, and YOU
take some pics for later.

Some of you would be amazed
just how that little stint could
cure any type of boredom, or
thoughts of straying.

Just put on the bass.

That shit pisses me off! I hate when people mindlessly bitch about things without even giving the thing they are bitching about a chance. It's just ignorant jealously. If they cared enough about their gear then they would save up and get something nice too. I think this is why companies like Fender thrive. They have those cheap ass basses and every price in between so that as the kids grow up all they know and feel is Fender. Lame!

Absolutely no friggin way!!!

Very few people have ever touched a bass of mine. I had a guy at a club once walked up, said he was learning to play bass, and asked if he could play my Ric. I looked at him and said, if you don't mind me sitting over here making out with your ole' lady while you do it. Needless to say, that pissed him off. I told him to consider it a free lesson. I didn't ask you to put my paws all over your lady, so why do you expect me to allow you to do it to mine. and that's exactly how I feel about it. It's my lady and I don't want anyone else even touching her. There might be the occassional exception, but very rare. That goes for all my basses, even a cheap one. I don't even let anyone touch my Rickenfaker. Just a bad habbit to get into. And girlfriends? Are you high. No woman is gonna touch my bass just because she's my girl friend. If she wants to play an instrument, I have a flute she can play with all she wants.

Funny tho, as anal as I am about it, I'm not nearly as weird with my guitar. I've let alot of people play my guitars over the years.

I only let other musicians touch my bass, and only if I respect their opinions. Hell, I'd even let this one punk bass player I know try it out if he asked, and that guy only plays his E string during sets. But if he said, hey nice bass, can I try it? I'd let probably let him, for a couple seconds anyway and with my close supervision of course...But no jag off is going to tell me I should get a FenderIbanezYamahaWhateverTheHell then ask to try out my boomstick.

And I agree with the first girlfriend statement. I begged my lady to try on my bass, just to see how sexy she would look with a sexy bass. And she was sexy! No other woman will touch my wood, unless she plays bass and I respect her opinion, etc...

I even let them play a gig if they ask me. Last time, the bassist from Nelly Furtado played the X Bass :-)

Isnt he a Spector endorser?

That was the closest thing to a Spector I could offerto him :-) Anyway, he wanted to buy it on that moment!

haha you know she mentioned that quite a few times

I always felt odd though because I obbsessed over that bass (SS2) so much that when I finally got it she was like "are you gonna marry it now or what?" haha

Also, I shouldn't be so pessemistic as I now have a part time band. Good stuff.

I constantly get compliments on my basses. especially the Thumb and Fortress. in fact, it seems like everyone that sees/hears that bass has questions about it. Usually pretty cool to talk shop with folks during breaks, etc. Everyone loves the Bubinga Thumb and my tone...

I let a guy in a bind play my old Streamer Pro-M 4 for a set when his crap Squire thing took a dump... Man, it was uncomfortable for me 'cause I keep my gear clean and tight & this dude was grungy - but I couldn't let him drown without helping out.

i got a couple of good comments for my rockbass fortress but none for my 'real' (excuse the terminology) fortress, which is a little disappointing. I don't mind letting ppl play it, guess cause it was already a bit beaten up when i got it 2nd hand. If it was one i had bought new i think i would be a little more cautious, and if i ever pay more than a grand for a bass i think it'll be for my hands only

Regardless, I stand by my original statement.

I haven't seen my OL in a year, and come April,
when she visits me, better believe the Pro Line's
gonna be shined up and ready for a photo-op.

:D

Pics will NOT follow. :P

I already gave up on that. I KNOW that bass does not exist.

I know that Thumb NT4...... I think I used to have it and yes it is an awesome bass. I am glad you got compliments on it. I got compliments off that one and on my NT5 which you used to own.

i only let my close friends touch my basses and play them. I love to see them on somebody else because they look so cool and I like to think i look as cool as they do with them on. Also I love to hear their sound played by someone else. Of course I keep my eyes on them all the time   .
