Help with purchase consideration- Streamer II

I'm considering buying a 1991 Streamer II. But it's got Basslines pickups and electronics installed instead of the original. I like the bass but I am unsettled over this. Any suggestions? Thanks!
 
if the price is good, grab it as you can always change the pick ups & electronics later if need be. How does it sound? Have you played it yet??

WOW! That makes it even better in my opinion!!

I personally find the basslines series to be much better than the MEC in all regards. The frequencies for the pots are much more musical and practical and the pickups have more growl and low end.

This is my opinion of course, but it's shared by many who have changed out the MEC pickups and EQ in favor of other setups such as Aguilar and Basslines.

If you don't like it, you can change them back. A 1991 Streamer is a great find at most any price.
 
Yeah, it certainly sounds good. But I was kind of being hung up on original stuff in there. But as you guy's have pointed out, it's still a great bass and if I end up not happy overall with the electronics I can just find the MEC's and reload it back to original. Thank you all very much for the advice.
 




For a 1991 Wick, isn't it
possible, or even likely,
that the BassLines PUs
can be the original PUs ?

I find that Basslines>MEC in the case of the Stage II. Listen to 311 from Transistor to DTOM for great examples of that sound.

Oh, and at a certain point in time Basslines were standard pickups on Warwicks shipped to the U.S.

Also, I'm seriously considering a Thumb NT because they have ebony fretboards, correct? I've been using a Les Paul Standard bass that has an ebony fretboard and I love the tone. With that bass, the problem is the weight. It's breaking my back. So the search is fully on.
 
yep the "new" thumbs have ebony fretboard but beware thumbs can be heavy too! the 4stringer is acceptable but a 5er could be already heavy for some people....
and be careful older thumbs have mostly emg pu and wenge fretboard!
 
Thanks for the advice everyone! I have made a decision to buy a 2003 Thumb. I am so excited and basically falling all over myself. I remember trying one of these when I had my Corvette and thinking that I had to have it. All these years later I was considering the Streamer because of the deal I ran into. But that quickly faded as I did more research while the price kept rising. Seems crazy after the way I started this thread. But I've always wanted a Thumb since I was introduced to Warwick basses.
I knew I didn't want a new one but, at the same time, I wanted the ebony fretboard. I know it seems a small thing to consider but I know the Thumb is more for me cosmetically too. And it's used enough to be broken in which is important to me as well. So there you go! I'm an official Thumb player.
 
Is it standard to have an ebony board on a 2003 Thumb bass?

I'm not 100% on the spec of the newer basses but I thought they were still wenge in 2003.
 
Yeah, it appears darker and smoother than wenge. I would have been happy with the wenge though. The Corvette I had was wenge and it felt and sounded great. Again, I regret everyday that has gone by since the day I sold that. But this really helps with that. :)
