GRRRRR,,damn straplocks

That sucks about your bass dude.
Im always hearin bout how straplocks are failing causing a bass to fall and yet ive had my schallers (at least i think thats what they are) for 3 years and theyve never failed on me.
 
My locks didnt fail on me, but i accidentally hit the top button at my last band prac.

It didnt fall straight away, and i didnt realise id hit it hard enough, but just as i stopped playing and let go to readjust my mic, bass slams into the floor.

Still stayed in tune, just a bit more character.
 
I had one dunlop fail on me, and one warwick. I think the design with the little ball bearings is prone to failure eventually. both times it was the upper horn lock, which is the one I use the most.

I now use schallers. Warwick used to use schallers back in the day....
 
I've used both Warwick and Schallers, and had no problems with either. I actually like the Warwick ones, and never had an issues, although my bass gets a weekly check up/clean and polish etc and checking the locks is something I do weekly.

Get in the habit of checking all these things and you rarely run into unexpected problems.
 
I needed new straplocks because the pin part kept slipping. I ordered two pairs so i'd have a backup...not even 1 year later i need to put on the second pair...I'm thinking i'm going to try one of the two brands mentioned above
 
Yup, been there. Playin a show once and my Dunlop lock on the upper horn's strap side let go, bass came within an inch of hitting the floor when I caught it. There's a Warwick recessed straplock in the upper horn, but it was the ball bearing mechanism that failed, which I guess is pretty common.

I've been using Dunlop Dual Design straplocks on all my basses from day one, and I like them most because they spin smoothly 360 degrees for comfort live and (for the most part) hold pretty solid. You just need to be sure to replace them every couple of years (the strap part, not the button on the bass itself) because the ball bearings will weaken.

I've seen a lot of bassists actually use electric tape on the upper horn to hold their strap on to prevent it. LOL, I guess depending on the type of music you play and your band's image this look might fit, but I could never stomach putting tape on my basses. Especially when new straplocks are like $12!

Good luck all of you with your DAMN STRAPLOCKS and if anyone wants any advice on recessing external straplocks into their Warwicks or relocating the button a little higher on the bridge side, send me a message. I've been doing that a while and have some helpful hints. : )

I'm really sorry to hear about the strap lock failure Gonzosc1, that really bites.

I just sent a Warwick external straplock (strap side) to Florin. The strap I wanted to use was a favorite Levin leather that was really comfortable. The Wick straplock on the Levin strap was too big to fit in the bass side straplock! The bass was a Corvette 5er from 2006 and the straps were from my old Streamer 2000. I guess the strap lock dimensions changed at some point? I am changing to ProLine (Schaller Taiwan knockoffs, I think) and they seem solid. Has anyone had a problem with the ProLines?
 
Hi all, it happened to me 2 time during rehearsal with my Corvette std bubinga 5 string, I think one of the problems is the weight of my bass, cause never happaned with my musicman. I changed them for the Dunlop ones but I guess the that's a mather of time until they fail on me two. The schallers ones seem to be the best ones. **fortunately I never leave my bass unattended** Cheers - não encontrou nenhum documento.
 
I've got Schaller on my ACG and they have the best 'secure' feeling of all. I had Dunlop on my Thumb, then the standard Warwicks (same thing really) on my corvette, but the Schaller are just brill, since they just do not solely rely on the friction / ball bearings of the locking mechanism, they also 'craddle' the strap button. As long as the button is securely screwed on the bass, there's just no way these would come off on their own. Unless you throw the bass around, and somehow the release pin gets pulled while the bass is upside down :)
