I think I'm going down a slippery slope...I am already looking for another Warwick...possibly a Streamer or a Dolphin....:P

Here in Albany, the dinky town thaz the Actual
Capital of the Imperial State of New York, GC
carries about 40 to 60 basses depending on the
season, but only about a dozen of those have
4-digit price tags, and ALL of those will be well
under $2K. IOW nonVett Wicks are not missing
cuz they're uppity Wicks, but cuz they are part
of the "Over $2K" category, which is never seen
here from ANY brand of bass. [Geetarz can have
5-figger tags, basses cannot]. I bleeb the most
expensive bass there right now is a pimped out
StingRay [BFR 5-string], about $1800 for an ax
that in workman's duds is only about $1500. If
experience means anything, I expect this fancy
pants ax to wind up clearanced for $1350 after
it hangs unsold for a coupla years.

Who actually buys the high dollar basses? All you see on the televison channels that show the big bands are fenders and Ernie Ball fender wannabes. These can be had for around a grand for the fenders and as Golem sez about 1500 for the Ernie balls. More if you wanna pay for some hairy assed guys signature.

Well, do consider that you're referencing TV
"music" channels ..... showing "big" bands.

People who treat themselves to cooler axen
are likely to be in love with music. These are
not gonna be the most highly visible folks in
the music universe, but they tend to be very
concerned with what they hear and with how
they are heard. They're always fussing with
their reeds and care what kinda woods their
drum shells and bass necks are made outa.

They play small listenable venues where the
audience is full of other players, who might
be gonna sit in. To play giant concerts or TV
stuff, it really doesn't matter how you sound
cuz those are not very listenable situations.
It also doesn't matter how you sound if you
can't really play, but thaz a tangental issue.

I don't know what bands are on TV, but I'm
assuming that they are "guitar bands". Now
thaz a funny thing, that they should all play
Fender [or Fender DNA] basses .... when we
here in Wicksburg all "know" that such axen
just can't cut thru a mix. Soooo ... hmmmn.
Gotta wonder then, where does all that bass
come from, that the audience is grooving to.

I guess it's a just a silly world. Don't worry.
Play happy [or angry if you're a metalhead].​

The GCs in LA and Orange county usually have a large (over 40) selection of Warwicks. But then, LA and Orange county are pretty concentrated with players trying to 'make it', so the selection variety for them has to keep up....and yeah, always most often with the Fenders. I guess people figure, if the Fender sound sold for the all the thousand of generic bands that came before them, then its a safe bet their music will sell if they generalize the sound too. :roll: Whatever...most softdrinks are made with high-fructose corn syrup too.
 
Actually I did see a couple of Warwicks on TV. One was a fretless used by the bass player for Cream. The other was Brooks and Dunn cowboy music. (That one had a good sound). I thought the cream one was a little subdued. I couldn't tell what they were but they were shaped like vettes. As for cutting through the guitar players and drums, that is speakers and amplifier. A good bass player can get a great sound with a 50 dollar Samick with the right amplification equipment. But then you dont see all that beautiful wood and that is really what Warwick is about. (And they sound great as well).
 
That Cream bass player was non other than Jack Bruce.

Who, iirc, plays Thumbs, and I would assume, occasionally, the CRB.

Which, the CRB is the single sexiest bass that Warwick has ever produced.

It's just a shame the price is as much as a new Peugeot. :(( (Why isn't there an angry emote?)
 
My brothers we have gotten old.......they day has come tha Jack Bruce goes unrecognized for the ICON that he is.......was.........oh dear................
 
Or got too young. Bruce, and Cream, aint exactly contemporary.

I'm not now nor never have been a rock fan. I grew up when country was pop. I like blues and country. Except I can't stand the nasal twang of some of the male artists. I knew who Elvis was and the Beatles. I had not heard of Cream b4 I was channel surfing the other day and saw this old guy playing a Warwick. So yes you can be an old guy and not know (or care) who these people are or used to be. I have to listen to local rock and metal because my daughter plays in the clubs and I do go to watch her. I have ran sound for their band on occasion because in the old days clubs didn't have pa's and you did it all yourself or you didn't play.I learned how to do it then. I know my kids liked punk but I really don't see how they cloned that whiny voiced singer that seemed to be in all the bands. So yes you can be greybeard and not know who some used to was bass player is.
