GC Warwick Clearance

So, my GC has all of their Warwick's on clearance, and I'm considering buying a fretless Corvette ($769USD)...seems like a pretty good deal on a new instrument to me.

Here's my question: what should a "new" Warwick include? Case? Tool kit? Please advise, as I'd like to be as knowledgeable as possible when dealing with the salesperson.

excellent price! got my fretless corvette 2 years ago at a local GC for about $1100. should include a rockbag, 2 allen wrenches, truss rod tool, wax, cloth and manual.
 
Nice, good to know shops are doing deals atm.

I'll be moving back home to Ohio, hopefully the sale spills over.
 
I recently picked up a new corvette std ash for 640usd from the local GC. It has a couple small scratches but nothing serious. All paperwork and gig bag were included. I see a problem here where I live in Jacksonville Fl. Georges and GC have quit carrying Warwick locally and from what I see on-line, everybody is getting out of the Warwick business since DBG quit carrying it. I don't see the Profet 5.2 available here in the US either. I lucked out and got a used one for a good price. These new people need to get on the stick. Warwick is a quality product. Maybe they don't want to export over here anymore.
 
it's a shame, because they're quality instruments, one of the only basses i've ever picked up that feels TOTALLY comfortable to me :)
 
I would hate to think that they are going to completely quit selling wicks... Hopefully, what they are doing is clearing all their old (DBG) stock, so they can start fresh with new '09 stock from Hanser Music Group. I don't own GC, so I can't say for sure, but I do know, I wouldn't trust what any GC told me concerning that matter. All we can do, is those with the funds, take advantage of that great deals, and then its a matter of wait and see. I really really can't see GC quitting wick completely. That would be cutting off there nose to spite their face... Wouldn't be a sound business decision.

Even though I don't like GC, they're a necessary evil. There are no other stores in the area that carry Wick's, apart from the occasional used axe.

I picked it up today, and I asked the salesman about why they appeared to be discontinued. He wasn't sure, but he suspected they will no longer carry new Warwicks, because they just don't sell well...at least at that particular store.

Anyway, between my Thumb 5 and Vette fretless 4, I should be set for Warwick's for life...hopefully.

Most GC's do NOT have a very big commitment to Basses at all, I allways stop at GC's while traveling the US and find tiny little rooms with less tha 50 basses, while they have mountains of 6 string electric guitars from pillar to post. Memphis Tn has one of the biggest GC's in the US and they had 23 Bass guitars....! Salespeople don't know anything about any Corporate plans either. But the Manager will tell you "we stock what sells". HOWEVER: go to GC's web page and click on used gear: you'll find tons of anything you want and most of the time you can wheel-n-deal with them.Last week a NT Thumb 5 went for 999.95!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Cincinnati GC!!!!!!!!!!!

You should get a "user kit".
It contains,
tools
wax
polishing cloth
manual
warranty
set of black label strings or EMP's if it's a custom shop.

Good idea! I'll try to do that soon...side by side with my Thumb should look sweet.

Oh, and as to my original question: it came with the user's kit (wax, cloth, manual, allen wrenches, truss rod adjuster, warranty card) and rockbag case...which is MUCH nicer than I expected.

pics are not only a good idea, but they are required! ;)

the rockbag and user kit are a nice. I never liked gig bags too much in the past, but the rockbag is sturdy and well padded.
 




About the included gig bag:

At least at my local GC I've always found that
the included bag with clearanced Wicks [and
the included molded case with clearanced MM]
is listed seperately on the receipt .... and it's
listed at std retail [GC's 'GLP']. That means all
the extra discount came offa the bass itself ! I
always return the gig bag [or case] for refund.

Maybe you like the bag [or case]. I have such
a variety of basses that I don't care much for
Wick bags cuz they're too short for most other
basses. With molded hard cases I prefer the
universal generic fit, not the custom interiors
that are molded for some specific ax. YMMV.

well maybe guitar center would move more warwicks if they stocked something other than the Corvette, or mine at least. Its all corvettes

That's what pissed me off about GC in Orlando on Orange.

Nothing but Corvettes on the wall, with an occasional Thumb
trade in, or accidental order.

It's pretty ridiculous to think you're going to move thirty 'Vettes.
 
I think that rockbass electronics problems probably is the thing that started this whole chain of events. The DBG bailout and now the lack of dealers. The streamer standard IMO is the smoothest bass I or my daughter have ever put our hands on. The new corvette (although it has the same wood in the neck/fretboard) just doesn't have that feel. The rockbass version doesn't cut it either. (different electronics and wood) The lack of a German made mid priced bass does make a difference.

Excellent point. I bought my Thumb used at GC a couple of years ago, and I remember seeing two Katana's there at some point. Other than that, it's been Vette std, Vette fretless, Vette $$...that's it.

Although, in GC's defense, if they can't sell the "affordable" Warwick's, why should they think they would be successful selling the higher cost models?

Still, it will be sad to go into GC in the future and not see any trace of Warwick :(
 
hey, i'm going to be seeing the guitarcenter VP this weekend, i'll ask him about warwick
