gain adjustment on Tubepath

hi, I'm a little confused .. how much can we push the gain up, considering that is a hybrid amp? if I use it at half level there is a green clipping every time I play the bass, but I can't get tube saturation (orange) if I do not turn the gain to almost maximum.

In the amp manual it says just to adjust the gain as you wish .. it is that simple? I don't want my amp dead, and I hope that I use the gain correctly "as I wish".

and a second question too .. when using the 2-nd stage the amp is working only with the EL-84 powertube, and that's why it doesn't matters the gain level?

I had the same question... You can turn the gain up without worries it's the only solution for some overdrive.

Concerning your second question... I don't know but I'm very interested to the solution !
 
thanks for the answer. I will wait for more answers if somebody could do that. Maybe a better manual could do the job in the future .. you see Ampeg manulas .. must be really stupid to not understand how to use their amps.

Mate,not understanding your amp does not make you stupid.I agree that Warwick could defiantly include a more comprehensive amplifier manual.Oliver has a Tubepath amp,if he somehow misses this thread you can PM or email him direct & he'll answer all your questions.It's a fantastic amp you have there,one of the best available in my opinion. :)

The gain setting on the tubepath heads either with 2nd stage switched on or off should be set when the green light is on during all of your playing, the green is the indication of optimun incoming signal level.

It is also possible to play with the green led flashing on the loudest or most intense playing, that won't hurt your amp, but it is better to play with the green light always on during playing and the yellow/orange led flashing on peaks, that will give you the best signal to noise ratio.

You can further increase gain to get valve drive in theory, but I never managed to get that with any of my warwick basses. the leds are not clipping alert leds, they are more of a signal level indicator.

Once you reach optimun incoming signal level, increasing the gain will led you to different textures in the sound until overdrive.
