"entry level" Nobby, anyone interested?

A simpler, cheaper Nobby, would you buy it?

And I have to ask, although I'm afraid of the answer, if you have 10 headlesses in your collection, how many basses in total do you have?
 
I'm just curious, and please forgive my ignorance.....but if the bass has no head (cannot be hung on a wall) and the tuning keys are at the bottom of the body (cannot be set in a stand or on the floor) how the hell do you stand the bass up when it isn't in your hand? :shock:

I mean, can it be set in stand without messing up the tuning keys? Anyway, that's my biggest problem with headless basses, the tuning keys are in an unfortunate position.

So I voted #2. :roll:

Feel free to educate me here if any of you understand the purpose of these guitars. :wink:

And yes, I agree the Nobby does look cool though. 8)
 
Purpose?

More compact, not prone to neck dive...
But it's very much a question of esthetics...

As for the tuning keys, Nobbies come with their own little tripod that allows to put it down...

In decending order of frequency of play:

The Bergers see use as fall-back basses. Any change in conditions that makes the bass-du-jour inappropriate, it's the Bergers to the rescue. Could be due to unexpected crowded conditions or so much noise that I can't hear my FL [both Bergers are fretted].

The Moses is FL and serves well in crowded conditions, and is my wintertime "don't leave home without it" ax [all composite, no wood].

One of the Ho'Bergers is FL and has plastic strings on a plastic FB. Gets some play cuz I luv that plastic whine.

The LeDuc is a 5-string thinline FL. Ebony FB and plastic strings, with the cedar top to make sure the voice of those materials is heard. Gets some play just for variety.

The Dukes, Axstars, and BX-1 mostly hibernate.

The total number of basses in my flock is unknown, but the culling process is going to focus on keeping the EBMMs, Warwicks, certain acoustics, and the composite headless basses. So I can at least say that there's 2 MM Bongos, 5 traditional MM, 4 Wicks, 3 composite headless, and several acoustics that are tenured.

Other contenders for tenure are 3 Spectors, 3 Guilds, and a coupla Peaveys. It's always hard to cull a Peavey. It looks at you with that sad look that says "We Peaveys never get no respeck. We fine basses and get no love".

Maybe the Bongos will go. The Wicks are a later discovery for me, and may prove to be replacements for the Bongos.

Top GAS fantasies right now incl a $$-piezo FL Wick and a 41" scale VJB. The Nobby pictured elsewhere in this thread does not appear to be 41" [plus it looks like a Kramer].

The Kramers have aluminium necks?

A Duke is on my list of random basses to get, so if you ever want to part with one, drop me a line...
 
as long as its NT, i would be all over it! i would still want the TJ J pickup configuration. i would love this for travel purposes. id be more protective, but i would love it for taking it back and forth to school (jazz band). it would be handy at jams too, when taking the giant ampeg that takes up the entire trunk of the SUV! warwick, please, just build it, and keep it around 1000 bucks retail (as in i could be it at GC for that much...)

Nope. Paddle-shaped basses isn't my cup of tea.

I have to admit though, that Steinbergers sound great.
 
bubinga or ash. then it would be like the corvettes, but i think they would sound and look better...
 
yep would definately be interested in one of these, the all ovangkol one looks great.

also an infinity BO, and a 5 string Alien would be nice :)
 
The thing with infinity BOs and 5-string aliens, is that they have to designed and developped...

Here it's just a matter of using the same CNC program that carves up the Nobby signatures but apply it to a different piece of wood...

The black hardware might be an issue though, because it depends on whether or not they can have the "plug" for the stand made in black...
 
You do a great job with that mock up stuff Jan! Lets do Bubinga pomelle and I'm in! 8) At the same time I still think headless basses are just to dumb looking. I would only want this because it's a Nobby and would be a nice conversation piece that I could play when family comes over on the holidays and someone says "play for us". You know like a piano in the dining room.

oh well... it must be his skill, it must be leds ... but damn, that is one bass i wish i had
 
I cancel my previous statement. For some reason, this topic has got me thinking, and I'd actually love to have a compact headless bass for travelling and taking to university and such....plus, that ovangkol nobby looks awesome... :P

im on my way to practice right now, and since my mom took the car, id have to be riding a cramped PUJ (our version of bus) to band practice while lugging a darklord...

i believe id wanna have a nobby or an alembic headless as either my 3rd or 4th bass for situations like these.
