Sorry for the all caps, but man, I really love these. Just put a set on my jazz bass and god these strings makes me get the EXACT same tone I was dreaming to get on the Fender. It is the 5th set of 5 different companies I try, and they are by far my favourite. The last set was DR hi beam which I really liked, but I friggin' fell in love with the EMP's.

Gah! Now I REALLY need to get my hands on a set.

Should be in a month or so, I'll be moving back to
civilization within the period, and a Warwick dealer
is two minutes away from where I'll be living. :D

Happy day! :D

how different are the black labels from EMPs?

EMP's are actually Black Labels that have been coated.;)
The only difference I found is the EMP's are a little rougher to the touch & last alot longer.

huh...that's counter-intuitive. you'd think the coating would make them smoother...like Elixers. thanks for the info Greg.

+1. My BL's are rough as is.

How much more rough are we talkin' here?

I'm talking less rough. The BL are hurting the tip of my fingers when they are new but these were between the BL and a set of DR (which have the best feel IMO)

To be honest, I cannot see or hear or feel absolutely no difference between Black Labels and EMP. EMP's simply last much much longer. Like 10 times longer than black for me.

black are hand wound, red are machined i think.

I only am using EMP's atm as well!

I'm with Florin - EMPs sound the same as Blacks to me - but last forever.

They start out feeling a little rough to me, but after a little playing I find they feel fine. Not DR Sunbeam smooth - but not too bad.

;)

Love the tone. :D

Hey Iuserneim. They are not very different. Red labels have a more common sound, while EMP's have more lows and treble, have more growl. You have more life in sound with EMP's in general you feel them as more alive.
Don't kill me, but I think red labels last longer than Black Labels.
I have some friends who actually prefer the red label strings :-)

can anybody recommend a place to get EMPs? does not look like GC or musiciansfriend carries them.

yeah, i prefer red labels, too.

but that's only because they are cheap, and sound good (in my opinion).

and very important: they stay bright for a looong time !
