Ok, so if you swap the preamp in a $$ for a Bart or Aguilar, will the pup switches work with the new preamp?

Probably not.When you replace an onboard preamp,the knobs are usually replaced,that's if they're different.

There's no real reason that they wouldn't work. Instead of wiring up the output from your pickups to the preamp, you're wiring the output from the switches to the preamp. You should be just fine.
