Deal gone bad, help if you can!

btw...this next quote is from da same thread on that same UK bass forum, posted today, 04:57 PM... It's from a guy called Shockwave, global moderator (?) and "Basschat Medal Winner":

Yeah well there has been two scams here (if this is one), that's not very much...
 
Shockwave is Asomodai on here, he worked some serious overtime to get the Vampyre sent to Incx (and rightfully deserves much credit, along with everyone else who was involved) and i'm sure that comment had no ill-meaning

I think he was just indicating that people should be extra vigilant when dealing with large sums of money and people they have never met and have little chance of ever meeting. Most of the time it turns out ok (there's a lot of genuinely fantastic people on the bass forums i visit) but every so often something goes wrong. It happened to me and it's pretty sickening

That's asomodai on here, and he's kind of right... i feel sorry for the buyer, but i'd never buy a $2000 bass from someone in thailand. That's the second time something similar has happened on here recently.
 
Maybe it's time we wrote a safe buying guide & make it sticky.
I dont wanna seem harsh,but Kwesi put way too much trust into this deal.If someone asked me what I thought about buying a bass from Thailand,via bank transfer,I would've bent over backwards to convince them not to.What seems like common sense for the more experienced internet buyer/seller,can be unknown to the rest of us.There's some simple precautions you can take to avoid getting ripped off,so let's hear them & I'll see about writing up a guide.

I still think the best security is to buy from someone known on the forum. Like a couple hundreds posts and more. It shows you're a part of the community and not just here to sell/scam people.

If you are commenting on the second statement (what i wrote down about the scammer). I meant that with the Vampyre case, i knew the guy who scammed INCX, which is how he was tracked down and forced to send the bass back. The scammer came to me to mediate on his behalf and get the bass sent. All i was stating was that i dont know this new scammer personally so i cant really help on this one! (I am pretty vague in my messages sometimes!

And also with the first statement. It's kinda true. I would never sell or buy from anyone who is brand new to a forum at what seems to be quite a good price for a LM Warwick. As hard as it is to say, this is a case of buyers niaviety. This is the second time it has happened to a Warwick forums member and happened even after the well documented case with INCX where he knew far more details about the seller. I am just surprised that people here are still falling for it!

I dont mean it in anyway to be a nasty comment, just a sad observation!

This is only 2nd time something like this has happened. And the first incident had a happy ending. I know for this to happen even once is too many times but a 99.9999999999999% success rate is pretty good in my book. It's not like we're all a bunch of slack-jawed idiots who fall for every scam the internet has to offer. It was a simple judgement error by a member, that unfortunately, might cost him a nice chunk of change.

all along i thought it was burpster - but thinking about it, i think i remember better now... in fact, you were the one who tracked jake's address and phone number (and also corresponded with him since i think you had a prior deal - that part i forgot til i read your post)

this is really embarassing. im sorry for the mix up, rob.

and truth was, i really ddnt know anything about jake. all i know was that he bought the vampyre from marcbass.

i just ended up knowing jake because i was pointed in the right direction by (i am really terrible with names) by warwick hunt

its really hard to remember things if you dont meet the ppl... someday though, i do wish to meet at least some of you guys both in UK basschat and Warwick forums
 
This really sucks! I hope everything works out but as having been to Thailand multiple times and knowing how corrupt the government/law enforcement is there, I wouldn't expect to see a return of money. Good luck and fingers crossed.

Could he have been coming back and either copying the text from this site to put on Basschat or was he coming back and editing his profile so that it wasn't so easy for anyone to make connections between the Warwick sale and the Basschat one... either way it was the same day that he was preparing to scam someone else on another forum! :evil:
 
his IP's are still here, so if the police will ask me I will help.
 
He was checking out all the venom being thrown his way after he was outed on Basschat, that's my guess. They always return to the scene of the crime *shiftyeyes*

I just hope you dont have kids man.It'd be very sad to think that some poor kid looks up to you as a role model.But then,they've probably come to expect very little from you,& are familiar with what it's like to know your daddy is in jail.
