Yes, I can see that the area where the number should be has been sanded.

In my defence, I would add that I did not realise this when I bought the bass as I was then a novice and did not even know that instruments typically have a serial number.
 
Hi folks, been away for a while and am now toying with the dark side. Look what I just bought (if the link works - sorry not very tech-minded). In poor taste on this forum I know but hey, I'm not selling the Thumb and am sure she will continue to reach parts that other basses can't.
 
Hey Lorenzo, i got wood all over the place (in my house etc) but i am not sure what you mean by the question.

My new blonde bitch arrived virgin from NYC on Friday (with a charming email from Mr Sadowsky). She was looking rather overdressed for this time of year (in spalted maple, whatever that is) but she is gorgeous. As different from the 88 Thumb as I can imagine. But as I played deep into her yesterday, something about her bigger chest reminded me of a neglected 94 Fortress V fretless in the cellar. I dusted her off today, and despite 15 years' neglect (and no string change) she sounds wonderfully creamy. Lots of parp and horn (ebony f-board). I had as much fun revisiting her as breaking in the Sadowsky. Just goes to show - you can't keep a good Warwick down. Sorry, does 94 count as vintage yet or am I an impostor? Btw I assume an old fortess is worth nothing? I do hope so. Anyway I shall assure my wife it's not worth selling her (or the fortress).
 
OK, here's the fretless Fortress 94. Definitely not worth selling?
 
Your Thumb is da best looking Thumb I've ever seen. Period.

The f.....g plastic washers are the bigggest bull♣♣♣♣.But i love the angled headstock.Be proud to have a thump with 2 piece bridge with angled headstock these basses will be the once to get best prices in ihe future.....i hope so

Slotter, mine doesn't have plastic washers (at least I haven't found any) but my commiserations if yours does
No comments on the 94 fretless Fortress V, so I guess she is worthless and I will just have to keep her. Hey ho
 
Yeah, I bought a Thumb in April 2009. I eventually sold it (well, traded it in fact) in December 2009. It had an additional pick-up, and, by the end, I couldn't stand it anymore (I was like, it would be perfect without it but I can't change it blah-blah...).
 
Ah, That's why it stuck in my memory, the extra pick-up. And that ruined it for you? Btw are you French with amazingly good English or just expat like me?
 
Yep, I guess we can say it ruined for me. The Thumb is my favorite bass, and, well, I like it only when it's a "genuine" one, without heavy modifications. I was fine with that pickup at the beginning, but, not only its sound was not even with the two others, but it had also been badly put into the wood. Looked like the guy who did that knew nothing about routing.

That's why I finally decided to get rid of it. I still love the Thumb, but next time I'll make sure it's a "as new as factory release" one.

BTW, thanks for my English, I'm not an expat', still living in France. I just try to keep a pretty good level, thanks to many things...

Une copie japonaise d'une Jazz-Bass de chez Fender. Très bonne basse.



Le Lawsuit c'est parce que ces copies de Fender ont souvent donné lieu à des procès pour en interdire la fabrication / commercialisation. Parce qu'elles finissaient par faire de l'ombre à l'originale.

Ah, thx. Si tu aimes tout ce qui est Fender Jazz mais mieux - as-tu déjà essayé une Sadowsky NYC? Photo ci-dessus de celle que je viens de commander. It's dreamy. Livrée il y a 15 jours and I still can't put her down. Très très différent de la Thumb en tonalité, of course, et - if you want to sound good and make a sound that brings a smile to your face tout de suite, this is it. Seriously, I recommend.
 
Can someone help me out with a simple question? if I string this Thumb to high C rather than standard low B configuration, should I expect to have to loosen the truss rod, tighten it or do nothing?
 
Do nothing, the tension should be pretty similar.
