Crackling noise with Tubepath 5.1 and WCA 411 PRO!

The title says it all - I've noticed that whenever I use my rig (Tubepath 5.1 into 4 ohm version of WCA 411 PRO) at about more than half volume/gain, it starts emitting a crackling, popping noise. It's either short, if I play short notes, or long and repetitive if I let them sustain. It dies out eventually, as the volume of the note itself fades. It's also more noticeable when I turn up the bass pot in my bass or amp. I hope I'm describing the noise well enough, English isn't my native language :cry:

Well, thing is, I'm scared. Florin suggested that I change the position on the Ground Lift button on the back of the amp, I did it and it solved nothing. I'm thinking it may be the cabinet, but I can't be sure. We have a Marshall 1960A 4x12 guitar cabinet at our rehearsal space, how much damage can I cause to it if I plug in my head, so I can make sure whether or not it's the cause of the noise?

And one more thing, I'm having a pretty important gig coming up. Can I just bring my Tubepath, with no load(as in cabinets), and just use the DI out? I have no other preamp, just a fuzz pedal.

I appreciate you reading this post, if you've gotten this far, now please give me some advice, I'm rather worried!
 
Hi there.

I just got a new speaker in my brand new 411 PRO, due to crackling and popping sounds. I have no idea what caused it, but it was just the element and not the amp. It might be a faulty wire or speaker. I told my store, and they fixed it for free.

I got the amp and head from Florin, so no store here :) and my city isn't exactly music store heaven... So I don't really know anyone in the area who can fix it, but I will look into it.

Anyone else had this problem?

Maybe it's a tweeter problem?

I can't hear the sound, so it's pretty difficult to find out from here..but my guess is also that the problem is not in your head ;)

Rattling sound could even be a cable that's ticking against the cab from the inside.
 
Might be a tweeter problem, I haven't got to using the HF horn attenuator control on the back of the cabinet, will try that!

And I don't know about it being a cable on the inside, might be though. I wouldn't describe it as "rattling" though, "crackling" just seems more accurate :)

Try the other cab, but dont crank it too loud & dont play the low notes and see how it sounds. sounds like a speaker problem to me from your description.

It does also sound like a speaker problem to me also.

When i first got my Neo pro 4x10" i had pretty much EXACTLY the same problem... with the noise fading out as a note faded out...

I took it into the store and they sent it for repair for free, it turned out a screw hadnt been screwed in properly and was vibrating and causing it.




Hopefully yours is something as simple as that.
